I will be picking up my new car within the next couple of weeks. It is going to be black. I am also having the 3M clear bra installed on the hood, mirrors, front bumper and door edges. I would like to know what should be done with the paint right straight from the get go to keep the deep black shine.
Thanks

Best thing you can do is immediately claybar it, then use a cleaner wax and then use a pure wax. Your gonna crap when you see how bad the paint is on your brand new car.

I would clean the paint BEFORE putting the bra on the hood, mirrors etc. If you don't you'll be trapping dirt beneath those and when you drive..well, your clear is gonna get torn up. Also you should clean beneath those each time you wash the car to keep more dirt from building up.
One of the biggest mistakes people make is thinking that putting car bra's and such on will protect their paint and they can just leave them be. Not so, clean clean clean!

Yup. I'm going to let the professionals at Infiniti put that on for me. I guarantee I'd screw it up 100%.

3M clear bra will go on the front bumper, hood, front fenders, mirrors, door edges, and back bumper behind rear wheels.

learn something new every day.
are there any negative effects of the clear bra? i would feel a little leary about putting it on my car, but thats probably because i dont know enough about it.

A lot of the mazda guys get it. I can't say I've heard anything negative about it. I've seen some cars with it in person and unless you know its there, or really examine the car, you'd never know its there.
My only question is what can you do to it?

3M guarantees the clear bra for the life of the vehicle, so if it discolors, starts to peel, the paint underneath is a different color than the paint that is not under the bra, they will fix it. A buddy of mine has it on a 2003 G35 coupe and you can't even tell it is on there. I think its an outstanding way to protect the paint. Can't wait to get the car.

huh, well i'm certainly impressed..i'll have to keep that in mind for later down the road.
i guess my one nitpick would be is that clear coat always is crap on new cars, few new cars come out with it perfect..and the 3M will seal that crappy cc underneath. :(

I guess I'm more in it for the paint protection. I'm not one that is going to notice each and every flaw in the paint. I'm more in it for the chip and surface scratch protection. If you guys (Ajaux and Coupe) looked at the paint on either of my cars, you guys would probably kill me. (This is why I'm trying to get the low down on what to do with the paint straight from the get go so it doesn't look horrible).
Ive had black cars before and I was constantly putting Nu-Finish on them and they looked great, but I was doing that to prevent scratching.
We'll see what it looks like when I get the car.

Then what you want to do is
Wash
Dry
Claybar (claymagic $10.99 AZ)
Cleaner wax (meguiars colorx, $8.69 AZ)
pure wax (meguiars #26, AZ $12.49)
Do that 1 time immediately and every spring at the minimum.
What cuases 90% of swirl marks and moderate scratches is improperly washing both yourself by hand and by taking it through swirl-o-matic car washes. What protects the paint is YOU, not some product you bought.
Read here on how to properly wash your car
http://www.paintcare-n-detailing.com/
You also want to make sure that no one leans on your car and you dont sit ANYTHING on it no matter how soft you think it is. Keeping your paint/car looking new is a commitment, not something you choose to do today and next week you dont care and then the week after that you care again ect ect ect.
