Hi, I thinking about buying a Impala SS 5.3L V8 for $35,000 but that would make my payments from 322.00 to 589.00 a month.

what do you guys think? the Impala to me is nice, but isn't a old mans car?

Sort of a plain car don't ya think?

And I've always been taught to calculate a car payment by saying $20 per thousand.

But again, it all depends on your credit too.

It would be nicer if it was Grand Prix GXP, but we only have one GM dealer here

If youre going to get a bland car, you might as well get a honda or a toyota and actually have something quality.

$35k does seem a little high for it, but it is a good car. It depends too, on your situation. You have a family to haul around, or other people you drive to and from frequently? If so, it'd be a fast family hauler. Yes, its kind of a plain-looking car, but Honda and Toyota (as someone earlier mentioned), are just as plain and way more boring. My personal choice, if I was gonna spend $35k on a fast family car would the Trailblazer SS. Plus, they come in AWD which I'm sure would come in handy up where you live. Just my 2 cents.

But you got remember, he lives in Canada.

So we have rip-off pricing by GM Canada.

Example:
Chevy Trailblzer SS starts at $52,655 Cdn vs $31,980 US MSRP
Chevy Impala SS starts at $35,475 Cdn vs $28,975 US MSRP

Even though a Cdn$ now is > than a US$.

Dont buy a mustang:amraam:

You know the G8 is gonna be here in early 08, a GT version will be ~35k

Oh and when you do sell I got dibs on your throttle body :)

WilliamGT,

I say, save you money now.
& wait a couple of years.

GM Canada (& the rest of the vehicle manufacturers) must reset their pricing for Canada.
Because of the change in the US$ to Cdn $ relationship has changed now.

Example:
Porsche cuts Canadian prices (http://www.grandamgt.com/forum/showthread.php?t=71035)
& word is that the other manufacturers will follow suit...
But maybe take a couple years to "adjust" their pricing

I hope by the time the Pontiac G8 GXP comes out; & it better come out, & to Canada too.
That they price adjust it :D

I talk to the dealer here, they don't know if the the G8 is coming to canada...Loke the GTO.
as for the throttle body, my old one broke. so I only have the one on my car

589 is way too much for a monthly payment. I would keep searching. But I will agree with Jason, AWD is a very good investment, especially in the great white north. How are the roads up there anyways?

How is it that this dealer doesn't know if the Pontiac G8 will come out in Canada...
When it is on GM Canada's website: http://www.gmcanada.com/gm/static/english/vehicles/2007/pontiac/g8/index.html?adv=PONG8B001

I drive that car regularly around the city (not the ss) and let me tell you it's TERRIBLE on gas. Figure your payments will be $600+/month when you factor in the extra gas. I believe it takes 93 octane. There are much better cars with performance that you can get for that price. Get a G35 Sedan. They are about $36,000 and also have 300hp

XMBlackGT1

I agree with Raze- If you want to spend $35K, go and get yourself an Infiniti G35. You won't have to worry about it falling apart like GM vehicles seem to do after they get a year or 2 old, and the Infiniti is going to hold its resale value quite well because the rental car fleets aren't flooded with them as they are with GM cars.

Again in Canada:

Infiniti G37 coupe starts at $47,350-$49,950 Cdn vs $34,250-$35,500 US MSRP.

Infiniti G35 sedan starts at $39,990-$46,790 Cdn vs $31,600-$34,100 US MSRP.

Yes, True, but the above 2 cars will be worth a lot more after 3-4 years of ownership simply because they are not an American branded vehicle- Imports, especially Infiniti hold their value extremely well.

Find a Grand Prix GXP if your going to go with a FWD V8 GM. 13.9@100mph in the quarter and call haul the family to church on Sunday. I wouldn't pay $35,000, but you find the right seller and you'll find those prices sure are flexible.

There are lots of different cars I can think of that I would rather get for that much, LS1 cars, WRX STi, 350Z, JDM R32s, RX-7s, Fairladys, etc if you can rip down to BC. The list goes on.

since your GA is in good shape and doesn't need any major work, I would just keep it until the loan is paid off. By then hopefully the prices will be more reasonable in Canada.

williamGT
10-16-2007, 01:01 AM
Yeah, when the loan is paid off, I'm thinking about 3500 top end swap or milzys stage2 kit.

And guy's thanks for your input on this:)
