I need some advice.

So i got my first speeding ticket today and it was 81 mph in a 65 but he said he would cut me a break and make it 71 in a 65. so he wrote 71 in 65 on the ticket. and at the bottom he wrote 81 and some code thing.

what im trying to figure out is if i should fight this or if i should eat the 127 bucks.

i was wondering if he could go back and when i try to fight it bring back the 81mph in the 65 or if because he wrote 71 in the box for the speed that the most he can fine me is the 127 dollars for the 71mph

anyone that knows this can u please help me out?

If they cut you break on the ticket, its unlikely that you'll get a further break down the line. I have had success in writing my local DA, who has usually made a recommendation for non-moving violations. If you've got a clean record, you might try that. The $127 isn't bad, the insurance hike is what I'd be afraid of.

Yeah, I can't see a further break unless you know a cop in the area who can do you a favor or something.

81's a bit high for a break. Be glad you got what you did.

81 down to 71 is one heck of a break, thats only 2 points instead of 4 points. They will be off your license in 1 year assuming you dont get any more violations.

I would pay it and slow down. If your going to fight it, then I would ask that they remove all points and that you are willing to pay the full fine for the 81mph ticket, but this could backfire, and might cause you more problems.

yeah now that i think about it maybe i will just eat the 127 dollar 71mph ticket. And i wish it was liek a week from now when my brand new escort passport 9500i was here and i could have used it.

if that cop was about 5 min earlier he would have clocked me at about 120 haha

I'd just pay the $127. I dunno how it is in PA, but here I believe 15+ over is considered reckless driving.

btw, don't drive that far over in Kentucky. I got stuck with a regular ticket as well as a reckless driving at the same time 3 years ago. 2 more months, and my insurance record will be (finally) clean.

now what will that do to my insurance since its just 6mph over and it is my first citation EVER

At least you weren't doing 115 in in a 70 on a bike. A friend of mine was doing that. The cop hit him at doing 112. His ticket was going to be 1200+. The judge gave him a break since we had not long came back from Iraq. She knocked it down to 95 and reduced the fine to 850 when he brought back proof that he took a DDC class. His wife had a fit. The bike had to go, too. I hadn't asked him how bad his insurance got hit.

If you were doing 120 on the street, then you are an idiot and deserve much worse than you got.

Back OT, if this is your first ticket it may not matter whether he cut you a break or not. There are programs you can ask about where they put you on a year's probation, still pay the fine, but avoid points on your license. I forget the name of this but it's the best way to go for a first violation.

No such thing in PA.

However, PA has pretty lienent citations when it comes to speeding (At least I think so):

http://www.dmv.state.pa.us/pdotforms/fact_sheets/pub472.pdf

Its dated OCT 2005, but that was the last time changes were made.

I know in NC a State Trooper told me that if you get caught speeding 20 mph over the limit, your car will be impounded and you will lose your license.

I see this thread taking a nose dive real quick. I remember last time people started bashing someone for doing above 100 mph on a public road (sure the hell not something I condone) was given points for contributing to a flame thread. I'm out!

First off you guys might want to REREAD the thread

That would be a Katana.

Yes. The cop did give him a break on that too. They would have impounded the bike and put him in jail. The cop tried to get me too, but I told him that I was trying to catch up with the soldier to let him know to slow down. I was doing 100 when he got my friend.

Yes.... he states that he got busted going 80-something, but if the cop had caught him earlier, he would have been busted for doing 120. What am I missing?

yeah, pretty sure its an IN thing. ive gotten a ticket in OH and IN (nothing stupid fast just over the limit) and i got a letter in the mail from i think the DA in IN saying if i pay so much theyll "fight" the ticket. i just cant break the law in IN for a year and the ticket will stay off my record. i didnt get anything like that from OH.

I'm not trying to start a flame war, but theres a forum rule that says you cant talk about street racing here. I understand, its reckless and dangerous. Shouldnt there then also be a rule that you cant talk about stupid speeding? 'should i fight a ticket for 80 mph' is one thing, but 'hey look at me i can do 120 is quite another.

Don't speed, especially anything 10+ over the limit.

well to be honest, the fact that you were going 120 before the cop saw you has nothing to do with the ticket that was dealt to you. therefore it is irrelevant and probably should have been kept to yourself in knowing that most people here would react in an unfavorable way

I recall past threads where people in other states had a similar option.

For mine they didn't come to me, I had my neighbor who's a lawyer go them and request it.

Be glad he cut you a break. If I were a cop, and gave somebody a break only for them to fight it and make me show up for court, I'd be pretty irritated.

The difference is that opening up talks about racing invites people to setup illegal races. There used to be many sites online that allowed people to setup their street races..those got shut down and many went to prison for it. I actually met one person that went to jail for a short time for setting up illegal races online. By not allowing it, the site and its owners do not have to worry about the legal consequences.

While we don't condone excessive speeding, talking about it doesn't encourage it on here. We aren't trying to setup people breaking the speed laws, it just doesn't work that way.

I hope I explained this right.

just saying its not national so he might not have the option.

my laziness did it for me. it came like 3 weeks after i got the ticket.
