Looking to see how much you guys know about the 3.9 chevy motor

Im lookin to get a chevy with a 3.9 v6 how close is it to a 3800 or a 3400 or 3500 im not finding much for aftermarket parts for this motor.

Since the grand am never came with the 3900, there won't be much info here.

i do believe that it has variable valve timing, which the 3400, 3500, 3800 do not have.

x3 for 60*v6, I think Ben was looking for a 3900 to take a crack at for more stuff to add to his store.

The current version of the 3500 (LZ4 motor) is actually based on the 3900 block and does have variable cam timing as well. The earlier version 3500 (LZ4) was based on the 3400 block and didn't have it. You can find all kinds of info on all the V6 engines (and others) on GM's powertrain website here GM media online (http://media.gm.com/us/powertrain/en/product_services/r_cars/index.html). They go all the way back to 2003 too if you click on previous models.
