Throw it away IMO

They do more damage than they prevent.

What happens is dirt gets behind the bra and over time the bra moves around from wind and weather. What it ends up doing is it slowly sands your paint away.

very true. my dad had one on his 95' camaro. when we took it off the paint was no longer smooth. it was very rough. i dont even know what it felt like. it was just awful. my dad was p*ssed. so he put the bra back on and sold it. lol

I'll put it this way, during regular months you would have to clean it ATLEAST once every week to keep it from doing damage. If you used it during the winter, expect to be cleaning it every day or every other day to keep damage to the minimum.

not only that but if you leave it on for long enough, the rest of ur cars paint will fade due to sunliight ect and the area covered by the bra will be darker. happened my my moms car

Why don't you throw out the car bra that you have, and invest in a 3M clear bra. I have one on my 2007 Acura Tsx, and I have yet to see a rock chip. Not to mention, it's virtually invisible, and it will do a MUCH better job protecting your paint, without the possibility of ruining it! Just my $.02 :)

I have a Colgan Custom Bra on my Malibu and have yet to see any damage. It has been on there for over a year. To prevent damage, I clean it throughly every wash. I scrub the outside with a rough brush, remove it fom the car and hose out the inside with a hard spray from the hose and follow that with the brush. Let it air dry and inspect for cleanliness before reinstalling onto the car.

Honestly, if it did damage the paint upfront, I really wouldn't care, the bumper is fading, the hood is scratched to hell and the fenders have rock and belt chips. Its mainly on there to hide existing damage. Damn cheap GM paint. But, I have yet to see any damage from the bra, only what was already there.

Your not seeing damage becuase your cleaning it very often.

GM's paint jobs are far from being cheap.

Not necessarily, I clean it about once a month. The thing that helps in my case is that the Colgan Custom Bras fit is extremely tight. It does not flap in the wind, and when it sits in the sun it does not get very soft and pliable. So not a lot of dirt gets behind it. Now, it does get dirt behind where the wheels throw it onto it, but the bra doesn't move in that area because of the clamps and straps.

As far as my paint goes, if it was of better quality then why is the paint on the top of both the front and rear bumper covers fading through to raw plastic? The car has always been cleaned meticulously and waxed. The bumpers have seen no extreme abuse. Its as if the sun and weather are just removing the paint in those areas.

By meticulously do you mean just frequent washes and waxes?

When bras move they move a very very very minute amount, so small you wont ever notice it.

Washing and waxing wont save your paint nor maintain it. It goes beyond that.
You also do not mention how often you care for your paint.
Washing and waxing once a year for example is not going to do much for you.

I mean that when I do wash and wax the car EVERYTHING get celaned. from the carpet, to the engine bay. This gets done about once every month. In-between those times, The car gets a regular wash and cleaning. It doesn't go very long with dirt sitting on there.
