Just curious how many of you guys have changed your own coolant. I got the coolant light and taking a look i was low and some brown gunky stuff collecting around the edges.

Was gona do it myself with a 50/50 mix of dex and ionized water..but would be more confident knowing tons of you guys did it yourself and no problems.

Just be careful with the reservoir tank cap. It has plastic threads that can strip pretty easily if it goes on cross threaded.

Deionized or distilled water is overkill. You're never going to get 100% of the old stuff out. Just use tap water.

If you flush the system multiple times with distilled water, you can get a lot of the old stuff out. Using tap water will only help build calcium deposits that clog radiators.

this stuff is illegal to dump right? So i can just take this to a dealership or something and they can get rid of it? I gota chk how much dexcool goes for.. but i will do it myself.

I pay for flushes, they are cheap and i dont gotta deal with taking the old stuff to autozone or the shop, plus they are much more efficient in getting the old stuff out.

Depends on the store. My local Autozone won't take any coolant.

Thats true, ive got one near my house that takes anything and everything and another one ~5 miles away that dosent take anything.

I changed my coolant myself also. Just make sure to "bleed" it. Also to catch it and take it somewhere so they can depose of it properly. I work at an Autozone and I know that we don't take coolant. Maybe try to ask a mechanic's shop if they can do it for you.
