So I have had this problem with my gaskets for Idk know how long. It is horrible. Anyway, I have finally decided I need to put a new engine in my car. It is the standard 3.4 3400 SFI in the 2000 GT. I went to the wrecking yard and found a good looking 3400 SFI off of a 2004 GT. Is there any big difference between the two which will prevent me from making the switch. Anything I should know? The engines look exactly the same, but I'm not exactly an expert here.

You better hope the gaskets on the 2004 engine are in good shape. / you better hope the lim was replaced during the short life of the vehicle or ur going to run into problems with that one.

how many gaskets have you gone through? do you NEED to do the swap? i dont think it would be that hard, just not sure if its necessary.

To the first response, I don't know exactly what a lim is being that I have my neighbor for hirer help me with this stuff. To the second, when I first bought the car it had a bad leak so we replaced the gasket, but in doing so we had to have a considerable amount of the warped head shaved off which may have resulted in this blown gasket.

So wha exactly is the lim? Anything else I should know? Will the 2004 be compatible?

lim (limg) = lower intake manifold gasket, a little gasket that likes to spring leaks on the newer model ga's :) 99+

The 2004 is compatible, just be sure to use all your current sensors. I know, for instance, the oxygen and cam sensors are different on the 04. There may be more different, I just can't think of any off the top of my head.

i used a 05 3400 in mine last jan when the old engine decided it wanted to eat coolant and took the bearings with it.
i had to reuse the o2 sensor and we soldered the connector off the old cam sensor onto the one that came with the new engine but other than those two sensors everything else worked just fine.

one thing you might run into is the ac compressor not bolting up the top two bolts fit fine but the bottom one is a hair off so it doesnt align, and before you say i did something wrong im not the only one that had this problem.

the 3400 i got only had 300 miles on it.
