Hey guys,

I am a new member, I am also not very much of a car guy. I own a 2000 Grand AM GT.

I am looking at getting more into it, and want to tune it, starting with smaller mods, and working my way up.

I am wondering, if Strut Bars are worth it?

I'm looking at an eBay auction (http://cgi.ebay.ca/99-00-01-02-GRAND-AM-SE-GT-FRONT-REAR-UP-STRUT-BAR_W0QQitemZ270196689080QQihZ017QQcategoryZ33591Q QssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
And I am wondering if it is worth getting?

The other thing I am thinking of getting is this (http://cgi.ebay.ca/GRAND-AM-SE-GT-ALERO-3-4L-COLD-AIR-INTAKE-1999-2005-2PC_W0QQitemZ160190559498QQihZ006QQcategoryZ38634Q QssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

Anyone have any suggestions? Anyone suggest some small easy mods to start with?

Like I said, it is a 2000 Grand AM GT, with 110,000 KM on it, it is in excellent condition, not a spot of rust on it. It runs the 3.4L V6, with RAM AIR.

Thanks guys,

Welcome. If you want to learn some basics about performance mods for the grand am check that link out. http://www.grandamgt.com/forum/showthread.php?t=71671
For future reference, use the search feature first if you have a question. Most anything that a newbie would want to know has been answered on numerous occasions. I cant be too hard on you though, you at least posted in the correct section of the site.

First look at the thread silvergtjrad posted.

Second, strut bars are pretty much one of the cheapest things you can do to a suspension, but arguably they also have the smallest affect.

Thanks guys.

Just one more thing out of curiousity, does the cold air intake I linked to above, seem like a decent mod? It seems a little out of the price range for the 15-20hp boost. Makes me think of the 'go faster' chips that can screw your car.

Would you say it looks right?

Thanks!

That ebay intake is pretty crappy quality, and it still has the stock bellows between the throttle body and MAF sensor. Go to the site sponsors link (its in orange text at the top of the page) and check out MP racing. I personally own an intake from there. They are top notch quality. Realisticly, no intake will give you that much gain in HP. Until you start to get into some of the heavier mods, there wont be very much noticeable gain.

Well you can go to this site http://www.mpracing.org/store/ or you can piece together your own, or try ebay as a last/final resort, I DON'T RECOMMEND IT, mpracing has good stuff and for your car its not going to be too expensive, I don't know too much about the 93, but I know they made intakes for it.

we (MP Racing) do carry cold air intake kits for Grand Ams... however we do not carry one specific for the 1993 Grand Am. You can use a 99-05 Grand Am intake with some modification but you would probably do best to buy the individual pieces and make one custom for your car.

if you wanted to go the full custom route you should check out the following link for our DIY section... http://www.mpracing.org/store/index.php?act=viewCat&catId=135

if you wanted to use a 99-05 GA intake go here.... http://www.mpracing.org/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=19
