2 1/4 is fine on an otherwise stock GA
2 1/2 good for most mods

If you're getting crush bent and not mandrel bent, then I'd definitely get 2.5" because you are going to lose some size at the bends and lose some velocity as well. I'd recommend 2.5" anyway even for mandrel bent.

Does anyone know the size of the stock exhaust? I have the SE duel exhaust.

It's actually a little smaller than 2" IIRC

Actually it's not... it's 2.25" on all SE and GT. There is no difference between them except the extra outlet on the GT muffler.

Did you measure it at the straight part or the bends? Because the bends on those exhausts are not mandrel bent so the metal stretches out and the tubing is not perfectly round at the bend. It will measure larger in one direction and smaller in another.

SE's and GT's with V6's have the same size engine, so they should have the same size exhaust. I've installed exhausts on both cars too and they were the same. The only one I haven't worked on is the 4 cylinder and it's the only one I can see having a smaller exhaust, although I don't know why GM would make a completely different exhaust for the same car.

they "should"... but dont....

some came 2.25 and some came 2.0" not sure why or when they changed things but I remember after 2 consecutive cat back installs having a stock gt and se exhaust all in 2 piles and found it strange then that the sizes were different... cant remember the year of the GT but I know the se was a 99

I went with 2 1/2 and man oh man is it tight above the rear control arm, no rattles so far though. Have noticed a slight increase in low end acceleration over stock.

Yeah, who knows why GM does these things sometimes. I just remember helping someone do a exhaust install on their V6 SE and it was the same size as my old GT exhaust. I don't remember what year it was though.

Yeah, who even knows anymore. I think this has been debated many times on here.... all I know is that when I swapped my SE exhaust for GT back in the day, the GT was larger. I am 100% sure of it.

I bet the 4cyl is 2in and V6 is 2.5 inch..... for w/e reason. I'm not an exhaust expert lol
