Can somone tell me if this sounds about right for parts and labor.

My car lost almost all power steering and was dripping ps fluid everywhere. It turns out that the rack is bad.

This is what I supposidly need:

Rack
return ps line
outer tierod end
allignment
and oilchange

I was told it would come to a little over $500. THe mechanic justified the price to me and it seemed to make sense. I just wanted to put it past everyone to make sure.

You pretty sure on that estimate?....Like I said the mechanic told me about 515 with the oil change....so thats a pretty good deal.

idk, my power steering recently went and i picked up all the stuff i needed, (ie PS pump, rack and the pressure hose.) the rack alone was like 200 bucks.....
so here:
rack- 200
hose-40
tie rod-20
align-80
labor-enough
-------------------
your at just over 350 bucks in parts..... if your rack was leaking, that would prbly mean your power steering pump ran dry sometimes...so a new ps pump is like 100 bucks.... so 450.
so im at like 350+labor

I had a new rack put on a beretta gt over 10 years ago, and it was over $600.00. Good luck!

200 bucks for a rack is pretty cheap - sounds like a reman or off brand for sure. these cars are about 2.5 hrs book time for the rack alone. tie rods are 0.9 each. the hose depends on if its a pressure or return line (average 1.0 for the hose) and then alignment.

(sorry, its the service writer in me)

well I think they have to drop the cars sub-frame to get at it. BTW how much is labor there?
