Ok, I just bought my Mazda last summer, and I love it, but I have happened upon a deal I don't know if I can pass up. My boss (and friend, mind you) is going to be moving out to California in a couple months, and doesn't want to bring his car with. He offered it to me first, if I want it. Here is the details:
2003 Honda Civic EX Coupe :amraam:
35,000 miles
100% stock... nothing but oil changes and gas have changed.
2.0 I-4 w/ 4 speed auto
Averages about 30 mpg, up to 40 on highway trips

They go for around $14.5k at dealers, and $13k private party around here. He just threw a number at me today- $10,000.

Pros:
Reliable
Great gas mileage (save about $900/year on gas over my 6)
Inexpensive to fix if something goes wrong
Low miles, could drive for YEARS if I wanted to
Great resale value
I'd be able to sell my 6 for about $13k or so, depending on how hard I try, so I'd be up $3k

Cons:
Slow
Kinda ugly (but rims/drop/tint would help a lot)
Ummm, it's a Civic

In my eyes, I might be stupid for passing it up. What do you all think?

A pic for those who can't picture a civic

Feg.

j/k, when it comes down to it, if you don't really care right now about having a cool car and instead saving money, it makes sense. Yes it is a lame car, but if you can bank 3grand for something else, like a down payment on a house/condo/etc., you may as well.

Hmm, the side of me that hates civics says no..

The side of me that sees logic in this, however, says it's a damn good deal and definitely worth some thought. Gas prices aren't going down anytime soon (if ever) and that combined with low cost for parts makes it a rather nice deal.

Yeah, I know. I figure that some coilovers and rims will at least make me satisfied with the way the car looks, hopefully to the point where I'll keep driving it. It's kinda nice that the engine doesn't respond at all to bolt-ons, so I wouldn't be putting a dime into the engine

That is EXACTLY my thoughts. I've never liked Civics (although I've seen a few with decent wheels and a drop that look good), but the money I'd save...

No kidding. If gas hits $4, I'd save $1,000 a YEAR over my 6

I had a Civic. I'm not too fond of the new years, though, that's just me. The later models start looking a little too much like an Accord. Too family-style in my opinion rather than just passenger.

Now this is an example of how I would want it to look. I would have different style rims, but I like it clean and simple.

Yeah. But adding a big a*s spoiler, a fart cannon, and a bunch of stickers/port holes does make them special.. lol

I would consider a stock spoiler, maybe, if it was cheap. But probably not.

Exhaust is a big NO (hell I wouldn't even do it to my 6), stickers are always a no

I'd rather have a basic silver 6-spoke

Overall, very well. The trans can be an issue, and there was a couple small recalls (which have been taken car of), but the engine is solid (stock) and the rest of the car seems pretty good for being 5 years old. I do, however, have a 100,000 mile warranty on my 6.... which is a nice piece of mind that I wouldn't have on the Civic.

tough call. youd like to think the civic would make it to 100,000 without a problem.

lol

To be totally serious, I have thought about that. I'm keeping an eye on some people that have modded GA's and want to get rid of them. I'd drop a little more to get a GA with the SC/T kit, hood, some basic bolt-ons.... ya know? Like Puck_you... I would have considered it. Hell, I'd consider Siks if it had less miles

Rich
03-11-2008, 10:30 PM
well, fly to CA and pick up siks car. on the way back pick up all of spys stuff and swap motors at the midwest meet. win win win.

but then Sik's car would be fast, and the world would collapse upon itself.
