I've had blue turn signals in my car for about five months and have had no problem with them however everyone I know with them has been pulled over and even gotten tickets. Well I'm driving sunday and sure enough I get pulled over. However it was in one of the most anal municipalities in my city that will pull you over for doing 25 in a 20, I guess because of them only having a few subdivisions and almost no businesses in their area they have to get extra revenue from fines? He was somewhat nice though....didn't give me a written warning or run my plates. I even took my seatbelt off to get my wallet out before he came up to the car and he asked me why i wasn't wearing it and i told him and he's like, "oh...alright have a nice night". Now the question is do i leave them in and hope i don't run into this cop again? Put some white ones in for a while or maybe replace the one that blinks with a white one and leave the solid blue in? Here's a pic to help with anyone's advice.

You are driving with illegal lights and complaining about getting stopped??? If you don't want to get stopped, lose the lights, theres not much else to it.

Re read the thread.....I'm not complaining about being stopped, the cop was rather nice. However I think having blue lights being reserved for emergency vehicles is retarded, never once have I used my turn signal and have someone pull over thinking I was an emergency vehicle. The point of my post was to ask of an opinion on how not to get pulled over while still having unique lights and when I become a cop I hope I can spend my time trying to stop more imporant things than pull people over with blue lights.
anyone know the law for lights in IL?
are ALL colors underbody neons illegal?
what if i get white?

sorry but I must say ALL LAWS against that stuff ****es me OFF!!
They say it's a friggin attention grabber and takes peoples eyes off they road. Dude a Porsche or whatever can take your eyes off the road and they don't ban them!
anyway sorry to hear about your misfortune cool he let you go.
I would say F it leave them in and if he catches you again play dumb and say "I haven't got it to a mech yet to change them back" I have 15% tint thats illegal but done so perfect that I would never scrape it. Took the fine twice and said catch me again!

To respond to tek's question I'm not sure about IL's laws on lights...I'm sure the blue thing's illegal everywhere. I don't know the law on neons...just heard rumours but have never been pulled over for them or heard of anyone being pulled over for them. The place I bought them from said that in MO they are legal but each individual city might have different laws that make them illegal depending on how they're interpreted. I also heard a rumour that they're legal if the bulb isn't visable? But i don't know if i believe that. And to Brad, thanks for the advice but I think I've got to do something here....plus my car usually looks like **** during a MO winter which is coming up soon so why not just have amber bulbs and put the tight ones in when the spring rolls around.

Eh, the cops are kinda right on this one. If someone decided to put those same blue lights in a strobe pattern they could easily make someone think it's a cop, and cops don't like to put on their lights for moving to a scene unless it is imperative that they get there faster than they can normally drive because all the drivers around there freak out and start doing stupid stuff like cutting others off and moving unnecessarily just to get outta the cops way.
So regular drivers see a car with blue lights in the front center strobin' like the lights they use a lot now, it could be seen a a cop and they'll get outta the way in panic. It could cause a problem. Just pick a different color.

Its Labor day weekend, what did you expect? I saw more cops today than I have in 6 months! From towns that I didnt even know had police forces. I got a couple good looks with no front plate, but I guess I was lucky, I got to where I was going before I got pulled over. Cops who pull you over for stuff like that, I think, arent really interested in ticketing you for it, but to see what else you have going on, for all they know, your drunk, or carrying drugs. With the blue lights or whatever, they have probable cause to stop you.

I didn't think about it being labor day weekend...that slipped my mind. So I'll leave them in for a while and just take them out when I make my Cocaine runs.

i say take them out. its not worth the hassle of wondering if you are gonna be pulled over everyday now. i think the cop let you off easy, and you should be really greatful. unfortunately i had a bad expierience with modified exterior lights. i had a either a $60 fine or battle in court. i took it to court and got off, but it was just too much of a hassle. i also found a very rare pic of my car more than a year ago, last summer, with the red fogs. i took it from one of those I-Zone crap cameras, so sorry about the quality of the photo. btw, this is NOT photochopped.

i had my blue turns in for 2 months with no problems and then a couple nights later i got pulled over in my own town. He let me go but said if i had them in after tonight hes gonna write me up for everything i have. Well, i had no choice but to take them out cause my dad works for our mayor and my mom is a police dispatcher for our town. Thats probably why i got out of it the first time, but im not willing to take a second chance. I would rather have amber or white and be ok looking then have my cool blue ones in and end up paying 75 bucks.

Other than the quality of that picture your foglights looked to be tight.....A friend of mine got a fifty dollar non moving violation ticket for his turn signals but got off doing some sort of plow job for the city's mayor that took him ten minutes. But I don't have the luxury of owning a construction company. Thanks for all the stories and advice.
