View Full Version : Lifter Issues

I have a 2001 Grand Am GT as you all know by my profile. The thing is when i start my engine you can hear a kind of ticking noise which i do believe is a lifter. i was told next time i change my oil to put in a half a litre of automatic transmission fluid in with the oil and that would shine it all up and possibly solve my problem. I was wondering if anyone else has tried this or herd of this or is aware if it would harm my engine. also if anyone else has any other suggestions as to how i can get this fixed other then replaceing the lifter that would be great thanks!

eh, id use seafoam in the oil like 100 miles before you get an oil change

sea foam.. how much would you suggest putting in?? and can it do any harm to the engine?

sea foam wont hurt anything, but its probably not the lifters, rather the rockers ticking. its nothing to be worried about. all cars do it most mostly, it goes away after the engine warms up.

i love the stuff, right after i did it thru the pcv valve, the car seemed to respond so much better. best $6.88 i've ever spent lol
