My SES light came on and when i pluged it in the scanner it said "system too lean". What are the possible causes for a system too lean and how can i fit it?

When was the last time you changed your fuel filter? Also since you have an se is it a 3.4 or a four cylinder?

Could be that you have a vacuum leak somewhere too. That'd cause a leaning out. Look around for obvious signs of a leak like cracked hoses and hissing sounds.

well the question is, does it run rough at idle and get better off idle, that would indicate vacuum leak, but like everyone else says it could be alot of things

The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor could be dirty or faulty. I would start with it first. Check the connection and get some MAF cleaner at the parts store. There could be a vacuum leak downstream of the MAF sensor as well. What type of air filter do you have?
