What kind of noise are you talking about? I have a squeak that the dealer said was from my tires. Whether I believe them or not I couldn't say :rage: Stupid RSA's... Lemme know how your Dunlops turn out since I think I'm going to be getting them for my car in Oct. for my b-day :) Only thing though is I'm goign to wait until my other tires are running down before I put them on so I might have them for 6 months before they get on... hard saying though...

Yeah the squeak that the dealer says is the tire and the rim rubbing together and is not covered under waranty squeak. I got the Dunlop's for $387 total shipped and my friend works at Pep Boys so he is mounting and balancing them for free. I will let you know how good they are.
Yes, my stock RSA's make noise. I guess I shouldn't complain as I still have decent tread and 52,000 miles on them. :D

Mine don't make any noise until I'm stopped and then slam my foot down....Then they make a nice noise!!! :D

Yeah I wanna see the bald tires again :) The bad things is that my B-day's in October and I have about 28-29k on my tires now. There's a good amount of tread left and I have a feeling I could wait till about 36,000 miles (roughly 8-12 months from now). So, should I get them for my B-day since I wouldn't pay for them or should I get something else?

The Dunlops don't make any noises at low speeds. On the highway they make a deep sound.

Deep sound? What do you mean? Is it annoying? Also, how's the walls on the dunlops? Are they stiffer than the RSA's? They don't bulge out much on the RSA's but I'd like a Stiffer one if possible cause I don't like it looking like I've got low pressure in my tires :)

The outside wall on the Dunlop is alot larger than the RSA's . People often will ask if my rims are 17" . Before with the RSA's I had a few people say they looked like 15"
The highway noise isn't bad, just different. I turned the radio down a few times to listen.

I have Yokohama YK420's and absolutely no noise (except the poor all-season tire squealing like a pig under intense cornering:thumbs: ) They are 17's but pretty tall 235/55/17 I think (I know, monster truck tires, but they were cheap.) Just thought I'd chime in. I would reccomend them to anyone needing a snow-capable cheap tire. Don't expect a g-monster, though.

I just had my 2000 GT in for service and complained of the same noise. I really notice the noise at low speeds, below 40 km/h, with all the windows up. The dealer said the problem is the thin ribbed band on the tire (Goodyear RSA) just above the rim. They claimed that the noise is from this band rubbing on the rims.
The dealer's solution was to pump up the tires to 40 psi , claiming that the tires are good up to 44 psi. GM, however, states that the tires should only be inflated to 30 psi for proper handling and ride.
The noise is still present at 40 psi and the ride is awful. I'm knocking my tire pressure back down to the low 30's. Has anybody had any luck with the issue despite changing all four tires.

those 30 mph feeway exit ramps taken at 60 make a nice tire noise :D

The 30psi is just a general pressure. At that pressure you're get a softer ride, better gas milage, and more life out of your tires. 40psi won't hurt and of course the ride will be a lot more bumpy becasue the tires are stiffer. You must have never ridden in a sports car huh? Hehe

I miss my S10 Extreme for handling. I had C5 Vette rims on it. 17s on the front and 18s on the back. 35 series tires....ohhh baby. I could take 35mph offramps at 75 no problem...except for darn traffic:D . I loved throwing that little truck into four wheel slides like the Nissan commercials:thumbs:

30psi won't get you the best gas mileage, 35 or 40 will. However, going above the recommended tire pressure is not advised because you will get a crappy ride, uneven tread wear, and higher risk of blowout.
The noise problem is due to a defect in your rim, get it fixed.

You are right about the psi... hahah I actually was thinking that when I typed it but said screw it cause I didn't feel like fixing it. There is less tire on the ground which = less friction which = better milage because you don't have as much resistance. But you will get a stiffer ride becasue the tires can't flex as much and the uneven treadwear is because it's filled up so much that the center of the tire buldges out more than the sides. I wouldn't think you have a higher risk of a blowout though. Not at 40, now if you put your car past 40 I will say you are crazy! I don't like mine at 40 just because I don't want the hassle of everything that can happen. I like the stiffer ride but you get less traction and all the other stuff mentioned.
I do believe you are wrong on the defective rims because a lot of people have this problem. It's due to the tire rubbing against the rim! People have said that, once they got rid of the POS RSA's and got a good tire, they have no more noise!

it IS true that when people get better tires it stops doing it, but the problem can be fixed by replacing the rim. Better tires are just able to handle the ****ty rim better or something maybe.
*NOTE* THIS IS SOMETHING I READ ON ANOTHER BOARD SO IT COULD BE 100% BULL****

Well if what they say is true then strike another one for GM. Cause I know of a couple dozen people with the problem! Who knows. I think the person that mentioned the wall of the RSA's sounded legit so who knows. I mean we all know the RSA's are POS's so it wouldn't suprise me if they did cause the noise.

Getting back to the noisy tires. The guy in service claims that the problem is with the tires and that, right now, GM is in a feud with Goodyear over who is responsible. He claims that, initially, it was believed that the rims were to blame and that they were replacing and refinishing rims all the time to no avail. The question is: Is the noise the result of bad tires or crappy rims?
I never noticed this problem until my car hit about 40,000 kms. Is this just the amount of wear needed to weaken the sidewalls on the RSA's enough that they rub on the rims? Does anyone have this noise problem with tires other than the stock RSA's? :rage:

I started having the noise after probably 5,000 miles or so...

Our '00 GT has just over 30,000 miles on it now and the rotors were starting to pulsate and the tire made more noise than a Ford pinto with a bend connecting rod.
I replaced the rotors yesterday with some aftermarket cast steel replacements. I'll be damn if I put the same cheep rotors back on. I'm no tone of those people that will sit around hours for them the change them once a month. Only cost me like $70 for both.
Then we got rid of those junk, over priced Goodyear rubbers. Replaced them with some very nice and very inexpensive Kumhos. I haven't had the chance to see how well they handled because it was raining today. But the wet traction was great.
