I saw one that got into bender and for one fender, header panel, headlight, front bumper and some other small things it came to almost 3 grand.

for a 00 with that many miles, bluebook might be right around what your looking at.

Def, accidents really are never a pleasant experience. If anything maby you can get a little more out of it with another estimate. As far as the shop taking the badges off I would start chaos if that happened to my car.

That's a sh!tty situation, but if you get $4200 for the thing I'm sure you could go pick up another GA with less miles.

Even though the offer from the insurance company seem wrong, they are within their right to offer to scrap the car. Insurance companies look at the "book value" of your car, and the repair bill from the body shop. Often times the insurance company will offer to buy out and scrap the car if the total repair is greater than 45% of the "book value" of the vehicle. When my car was hit on the street (my car was parked on the side of the road), I needed to have the front bumper and drivers side fender replaced. The total cost of the repair was over $1,700, so $3,000 seems high, but not totally unreasonable if your body shop is using OEM parts. If they feel that your car is worth $4,200, then they have already made their decision.

From my experience, it is common courtesy for the shop to tell you about the work that they are performing to the car, BUT it is the insurance company that is paying for the repair, so they are obligated to discuss the details with them first. I would say that you need to get things straightened out with your insurance company first! The shop doing the repair is obviously trying to screw your insurance company, and the only person who will be directly affected is you!

In Ontario, when a Insurance company decides to scrap the car, the car owner has a small window to remove his/her personal property from it. When that window is cosed, the car and all of its contents become the property of the insurance company. From there, the insurance company car crush the car, or sell it at an auction.

What this means is that the shop can not remove any part, sticker or emblem, without purchasing the car in full from the insurance company first! What they are doing is against the law! If the insurance company has sold the car to the body shop before you have made up your mind about keeping the car, then that is against the law too!

Where you might be screwed is if you/and/or the insurance company has already signed off on any repairs. Without giving away any personal information, who is the insurance company, and body shop? We should warn other Canadian GAGT owners about these crooks!

Make sure you have to let it go. In the states, I believe, you have the opportunity to buy back your car for their salvage cost. I would think it would be 1000 or less. Then take their offer and repair it yourself. Sucks but usually we take it up the a$$ whenever you have to deal with insurance/accident. Good luck on whatever you do.

You can also buy it back from the insurance copany in Ontario as well, but it's not worth it. For instance, the insurance company would give you $4,200 for the car, and you can buy it back from them for say $1,500. You would still need to spend $4,200 in repairs for the car, and you would not be able to sell the car if you so wished, because it would be "branded" as a rapaired write off. Some insurance companies will also make you sign a contract when you buy back the car from them saying that you will dispose of the car to the scrap yard, at your cost, when you are done driving the vehicle. The idea there is to prevent you form selling it, whether or not hte car is in perfect worokign condition to another buyer, who may or may not file a claim against the car.
