I am all ready to pull my engine 2.4L the only thing that is giving me trouble is seperating the engine from the transmission. all of the bolts are out that need to be out i just cant seem to completly seperate it any ideas?

Are you positive all the bolts are out? Did you get the one that goes in the oposite direction from all the rest? It's a real pita and you'll have to use a bunch of extensions to get to it from the passenger side. It's back between the engine and the firewall.

Other than that, I guess it could be stuck really good on the dowel rings. Use a prybar to kinda wiggle it loose from them?

its on the back side of the bell housing, u have to go in through the pass side wheel well. u need about a 3 ft extension. if u can get ur hand down there follw the bell housing all the way around and u shond beable to feel it!

so i just went out side to look and it turns out the bolt in which i think u guys are referring to has been removed. there is absoloutely no other bolts that can be removed. The darn thing just will nto seperate from the transmission.

That's odd. It's usually that bolt that everyone forgets. did you take the starter loose? Atleast one of the starter bolts goes through to the bellhousing.

I know I've had those hang me up before.

is there only the one bolt that goes in from tghe other side? should it jsut slip right out of those sleeves ion the tranny or do u have to pry it pretty hard?

It's been forever but I think I remember needing to open the inspection port and get an open end wrench up in there to loosen the TC bolts. I want to say 3 or 4 of them. I thought the Haynes manual walked me right thru it. I can check for you tonight when I get home.

that would awsome if u could do that. as far as the torque convertor bolts all of them have been removed. i am really confused right now as what else it could be lol.

Now take this with caution. The TC seemed to be "stuck" before it was separated. Maybe just a little more torque would cause it pop open. I would also ask how are you getting any room in there with the tranny connected? Is the tranny/motor lowered a little to make room?

we got it [pretty much stri[pped off accessories and intake manifold. there was one bolt on the axle to motor mount that we forgot and we removed that one and it popped free no problom. we should have taken off the harmonic balancer but we should make do.:)

New water pump and timing chain/tensioner at a minimum. I would replace that oil pump as well. Glad you got it off.

You don't NEED to replace anything but those parts are prone to failure. I would throw the extra bux in just to not have to do a tear down again. Chain is likely OK but that tensioner must be pretty chewed up. And hot 2.4's are trash rather quickly if the WP fails. My $.02

ok thanks alot man. i was told if i replace the water pump the timing chain HAS to be done at the same time this is not true?

The chain can stretch over time and cause the chain to jump a tooth. It would take a lot of play for that to happen so use your best judgement. You should NOT have to but that doesn't mean you wouldn't maybe want to.
