simple question... anyone who has installed the grill kit with the inserts for the hood... whats the best way to go about replacin the plastic fake grills in the hood? i wanna know before i rip out the originals, cause it looks like there's a ton of glue or somethin holdin them in

Damn. Mine only had 2 screws on each side of the ducts holding the old grills and the back plate in.

damn... it looks like some sort of putty, like cold-weld or somethin.

another thing... do i need the back plates in? cause if its like pourin rain, would the water cause any problems while i'm drivin?

To get all the glue crap out I took a screw driver and hammer and started chipping away, didnt take too long. I threw away the black pieces that hold the grills in come to find out I was supposed to keep them to put in my new grill inserts

I ended up just putting the grill up to the hole, and putting a screw straight through the grill into the hood... holds just fine.

As for rain or snow getting in the scoops I wouldnt worry about it the only problem you will notice is maybe a little more dirt in your engine bay. As far as I know no one has ever had any problems with having them open all the time.

And if you don't want anything getting back there, just cut some plexiglass to put behind the new grill, you wont even see it, and you could run LEDs behind it no problem.

I dont want to put any holes in my car... but I want them back on and I want them to stay on! Any pointers?? It came with the wire to hold it on, but cant figure out how to do it without drilling on my car...

They are talking about grills in the hood. Your avitar shows a plain hood.

I think she's talking about the nostrils on each side of the arrowhead. Post a few pics of the inserts that you have Melissa.

I used a heat gun and putty knife. The first one was a little rough, but the second one came real easy. Once that tar like stuff gets hot it comes off with no problems.

thats what i was thinkin. but figuered it would be pretty resistant to heat, since it sits right over the engine. i'll try it when i've got time. and as far as the two nostril inserts on the sides of the pontiac logo... they just slide in from the front.

here's the instructions from customcargrills.com...

5. Orient the top pieces so the flaps on inserts are facing the rear of the car. The top
inserts also have a left and right orientation.
6. Remove the tabs that hold the front “ram air” guard piece. They should come out by
lifting up on them with the needle nose pliers. Put the top pieces in from the front.
7. The grill flaps slide in between the hard plastic bumper and the soft runner surround.
The flaps come pre-bent but may need a little bending to ensure they don’t scrap your
vehicle’s finish. Press the inserts in from the front while holing the rubber surround
in the back.
8. If you feel the top pieces are not fully secure, we suggest removing the inserts and
applying an adhesive behind the rubber surround. Then re-install the inserts and
allow time to cure
