i cry everytime i think of it...umm break down would be
$600 for machine work and cleaning and misc stuff
$360 for rings and pistons
$40 for bearings
whatever WOT TECH charges for porting the uppers/lowers/heads/crank scraper
ARP stuff...$100 (havent figured in studs yet)
$200 for gaskets
$200 for injectors
$70 for balancer
$20 for flywheel
whatever SS has for coated headers
$200 for TCE TB
$147 for MP CAI
$135 pushrods
Free - valvetrain...i have connections
all this stuff is kinda rounded...but i think thats it

thats enough $$, but your gonna have one hell of an engine and a great trans to back it up. i cant wait to see the finished packge

i say no to stock CR of ~9.5....itll prob be in the upper 9 range...with me milling the heads and block and all...hopefully in the upper 9.8 to 10 range...the pistons are stock sized just overbored and hyper e...
and the HP...i dont know, hoping for over 240 crank...i think i can make that no prob. ill be running it on a mustang dyno when i get it all together. and yes itll be one hell of a project...and yes i did spend money on it, but i believe it will be worth it

Everything looks awesome man! Can't wait to see the end results. :)
oh btw, whats the deal with that balancer you listed? Is that the harmonic damper you are talking about? I know you had mentioned trying to get someone to make an aftermarket one. Just wondering what happened with that. ;)

I have been talking to ATI...but no dice with them, so now im going to talk to powerbond...they already make the stock replacement, so it wont be hard for them to make an underdrive one, the only prob is they are in australia, so communication is a little difficult...but if they get one made then ill be first in line to get one in underdrive...but not too much

Ah, ok. Well, I'm not really interested in under drive anyway. Just lighter. That's why I have the billet RSM pulley, but I'd prefer to have one that's still a harmonic damper like stock. I may be switching back to the stocker anyway.
One other question. Whats up with the hybrid lifters you listed? Got any pics or can you explain how they're different? Just wondering 'cause I've never heard of anyone modifying the stock ones and haven't really heard of many people having problems with them, so just wondering about the need. Then again, those are some pretty narly valve springs you listed too... even stiffer than LS6's or comp 26986's. Why do you need them so stiff?

Great progress, I missed this thread the last few days when I was browsing through. Also, good choice on the HSW, they make great products. Not sure if you have already purchased or not, but I would go with a dry nitrous setup. From my personal experience with it, I would spray dry in the grand am, unless you were going with a direct port set up. The air/fuel mixture just has to make way too many bends before it hits the combustion chambers. Fuel will end up puddling at some point and cause an intake backfire, which im sure you could imagine is no fun.

yah the hybrid lifters are stock 3400/3500/3900 lifters (they are all the same pn) then use the springs, both the ball spring and the big spring, from the LT(any newer SBC lifter but normally called the LT lifter) or the LS lifter, same thing really, and put the springs in the 3400 lifer, that way they can take higher RPMS with not worrying about spring pressure or pump up, but the check ball spring makes the bleed off better at idle, so you can run a larger cam and keep good vacuum at idle.
Also on the springs, i just want some good springs, plus manley gave them to me to use so i figured id give them a try, plus manley makes their own springs in house...comp doesnt. they are awesome though, and alot quieter than the "comp" springs. I was going to try some PAC springs, but just didnt want to worry about measuring every one they make...that is a crap load. plus the ti retainers from manley are smaller and lighter than the comp ones and they are better imo, and when you use them with the manley retainers, they have the valve tip sitting a little higher, giving you a better contact area for the rocker tip. I like those springs though, you can tell they are very good just from lookin at em...ill post up pics in a little bit.
and im running a harris dry system with their awesome controller...it is the bomb. but itll all be hidden super secret ninja style so no one will know its on there. oh yah and itll be a 75 shot prob, may doodle with a 100 shot i dont know yet
and another update, just got my heads and SI valves in from Ben at Wot Tech...very awesome. They will have the SI valves until the manley valves get done then the heads are comming off to check everything out and the manleys are going in. Oh yah and the SCR for my engine is looking more like the 10.2:1 to maybe as high as 10.5:1....depending on the CC of the head after i get them milled .010 at my machine shop next week. Then ill put them together and take pics so everyone can drool...including me lol

build looks good. some serious time behind that.
im running the hybrid lifters too. got the idea from dave on 60degreev6 when i was having noise issues. when i bought a new set of lifters i put the springs from the lt1 lifters in them.
cant imagine what i would have for vacuum at idle without them. its already low as it is, maybe 7-9 maybe 10 at idle. but the brakes still work good

sounds like my car been since nov last year since ive driven it and since march when i started the whole engine project and im still having issues.
got plates on it again last month and still having a bitch of a time with fueling.
im sure you have seen my thread on 60degree in the obd-ii section

yah, sucks on the noise...thats why i am going to the manleys and hybrid lifters...didnt like the LS6 springs to begin with, and they made my engine sound like a sewing machine...bleh. i might see if harland sharp can make my rockers better like they do with the LS rockers, last thing i want is to lose some bearings at almost 7k...

FYI....Ben cc'd my heads at 26.8cc....that's with the SI valves and milled .020". According to the CR calculator, that'll put me around 9.9:1 SCR.
But with your .030" overbore, and if you also decked the block .010", (just guessing at about 27.5cc on your heads), you'll be around 10.2:1 as an interference motor (only .03" quench).

i never even ran the engine with the LS6 springs in it, i didnt like the way they were pretty close to coil bind when i was test rotating the engine before i buttoned it up.
so i got a set of the comp cams 26986 springs to use and ive been running hybrid 3400/LT1 lifters for the last few months. now im fighting with fueling, data scan says its running lean at idle but the tailpipe says otherwise. but the new o2 helped cause it actually works.
FWIW it runs and drives throughout the power band pretty decent, but is not bad for a stock tune on a non stock motor.
i hope yours goes better and works out better than im getting right now.

yah i hope so also...that is why i am upgrading everything and leaving nothing to chance...im buying a brand new Delphi pump module and upgrading all the wiring to the pump to make sure i dont have to worry about voltage problems. none of this crappy under the body hot wiring...im going through the factory harness and changing it all and through all of the connectors. straight from the relay to the last connection inside the module at the pump itself. everything is being replaced, or checked or upgraded...i figure im going to do it once and do it right. time isnt an issue and im doing it slow enough that money isnt keeping me back

I would not recommend doing that. The "OEM Delphi" ones (1999 model) at the local Napa store here looked not as good as the original stock, the flex hose was even a smaller diameter. The Carter one made for Napa looked better. They did not have the Bosch equivalent in stock at the time, but you might check that one out.

I looked at a bunch of different pumps, and i like the delphi much more than the airtex or the other one i looked at (cant remember the brand)....they are always better than the airtex in what we sell at oreillys

There is a difference between the '99 type, (which I have) and later years, that may be why...

i believe so, because they had higher pressures, so they would need a larger tube to feed the need...funny huh, i can look though

Damn man, wish I'd heard about the hybrid lifters sooner. I just got done putting all that stuff together a couple months ago. My engine's pretty noisy too, but it's been like that since I switched rockers so I always figured that was it. I would've liked to try the hybrid lifters though. I'm not about the tear the engine apart again to do it though. :(
