i put new struts, mounts, and springs on a little while ago. after a while, i noticed that something wasn't right. i took them off, and saw that the mounts were dug into as you can see in the pictures, if anyone can tell me what i did wrong or what went wrong, this is the first time i have ever done struts and springs.

they are kyb gr2 struts and mounts and eibach springs

i had everything in order from top to bottom

nut, washer, mount, bearings, then spring, is that wrong?

thanks for any help.

What are those little metal balls? I have never seen those on top of a strut mount.

I went through about 3 sets of factory mounts when I had GR2's and Eibach springs until I gave up and went back to stock. My friends and I just could not figure out why that is happening because we thought we assembled it right. The bottom part of the mounts probably got dug into when they came off track and you turned the steering wheel.

Looks to me like they weren't installed correctly.
You had them installed in the right order, but most people don't check to see that the metal race on the underside of the strut mount is correctly seate in the bearing plate.
You'll need new mounts and bearing plates obviously. I'm happy with my Moog pieces I got from RockAuto:

You could also have one of the early sets of kyb's. They didn't thread the shaft far enough for the nut to tighten all the way and it left a little slop in the mount, which would end up as a rattling noise people would hear and would usually chew up the center hole in the mount. They've since corrected the problem, but it's possible the ones you bought could have been old stock. Putting a 1/8" thick washer underneath the shaft nut will make sure it's holding the mount together tight. Also got to make sure everything's together in the right order too of course.

yes i got the washer with my struts, right now what i did was swap my mounts back to stock, and so far eveything seems ok, i dont hear any noise as i did with the kyb mounts but next week i will take them out again and check if theyre ok
