Yeah. I know. It's not PS. I don't have the program nor the damn skills... lol ;crap
I tried to see if PFYC and GrandDesignMat could get something made like this and they said that they couldn't due to TM restrictions. Understandable, so I decided to try my own way. I don't have the resources to build my own unfortunately, so I have to use what I have and adapt and overcome... lol
Here's what it looks like. Let me know what you think.... uh oh...

Since everything is vinyl (the insert and the decals), that might not be a good idea.... lol lol
But, I think concept of it would be cool too. Hmmmm...

You could ask at some interior shop, furniture refinisher, etc. GrandDesignMat might get sued but a little shop making one piece will never get noticed. Maybe you could take some orders and get a lower price.

I was actually thinking about that... They might even be cheaper, since I'm looking at around $150 for all the pieces.

And it doesn't mold. Maybe there is a suede like vinyl material.

I'm calling some of the auto upolstry shops around here later today to get a pricing. I do want the vinyl though.

Well. I called around and got pricings. Everything was going to run me between $125-$150. That's basically the price for the insert from PFYC and the decals from CustomGrandAm. Ehh. Oh well... lol
Make me wish I had my own house w/ a nice garage, and lots of manly mechanic and power tools... ARR ARRR ARRRR!!!! lol

That sucks. Spend that $150 on something else, like....errmmm...... I dunno, go-fast parts.

Yeah, you might get lucky on a used one for that cheap, but I doubt it.

Alright Matt, I got a couple of questions. Stay with me here. I tried making one of these a while ago by making a styrofoam insert wrapped in vinyl. I couldn't get a good outline. How and where does it attach to the trunk? How deep (or wide if your lookin from the side) is the insert? And finally (here's the big one) would you mind making a template to fax or email me? I was thinking tape a bunch of 8 1/2 X 11 together and trace the insert and fax/email it. Got a fax machine?

BTW, the two marks on the left side of it is from the kids of the guy that let me ship the insert to his house (needed a good street address and not a military address.. ;crap). They decided to throw pencils at the box. I didn't know what kind of material was used to make this, so I thought the sh1t had puncture marks. Thank God it wasn't messed up..

Here's a few other pics of it. The bottom of this is kind of like our trunk carpet material
Here's the install instructions..

it looks like there is curvature to the insert. I figured that was one of the problems making one out of styrofoam. oh man, I just realized i had that same comforter/quilt when I lived in the barracks. must be a gov. contract thing.
PhantomLover007
10-16-2008, 08:11 PM
Yeah. It has a slight inward curve to it.
lol. Yeah. I'm staying in a barracks room here in Ft. Gordon while reclassing. The nice thing is that the lodging runs the thing and maids clean up the rooms. The lady that comes in rarely has anything to do, except change out the towels. I make the bed and keep the room clean. She said that I'm not like alot of the other folks that pretty much trash the rooms. I told her that it was from my mom's and my old school military upbringing... lol

Finally got my trunk insert made and installed. I may need to find a better way to attach it, but so far double sided tape works fine. Not professional by any means, but it's lighter and cheaper than a PFYC one. Big thanks to Phantom for all the help.

hmm...well I know the lettering is centered, it might be the fact that I was standing a little to the left. Gonna go take a look.

Lettering doesn't look quite straight, so yeah..
A good first try tho, my first gripe was the bottom of it when opened isn't wrapped as well..wrinkles in there.. :(
