Basically some idiot caused a 5 car chain reaction accident.

I was at a stop at the time of the accident (traffic from a merge ahead), from what i can guess, The SUV was going to change lanes to the left to avoid coming to a stop from merging traffic ahead, the car behind me braked faster then the SUV thought and the SUV plowed into it, and it into me. I was about 10 feet behind the car infront of me and it was enough force to push me into it so it hit the car infront of it also.

Only skid marks on the ground were from my car getting pushed from a stop and the car infront of me for the same

front of my car(very little dmg i think, didnt hit person infront of me that hard):

http://i33.tinypic.com/w1yd74.jpg

no airbag deployement fro anyone (i would have thought otherwise for the Tahoe or Integra, not sure if they blow from rear end collisions often and i dont think i hit the person in front of me hard enough for mine to go)

Thoughts on if my car will be repaired or totalled out? If totalled out, would I expect to get enough cash to purchase the exact same car from a used dealership assuming similar options\mileage? or do they try to screw you with cash then what replacing the car would be? (moot point if they simply repair my car). My insurance company said they would provide me more info late today or tomorrow, but wouldnt elaberate on the above.

This all went down on my home commute thursday, was really soar and stayed home from work friday. Today I am feeling much much better, little soar in the neck\upper back, but nothing compared to last friday.

i have a feeling judging on the amount of damage to the rear that it will be totalled. make sure you snag the hood and spoiler if it goes to the jy and return them to the community if you dont get another ga

Hopefully this, as i would rather get the car back, still owe about 4k from getting it new and would be in a bind getting a new car as im buying a house and the bank advised me to not buy anything untill after escrow closed out in a few weeks.

ya thats a pretty lousy deal dude.

thats something iv never thought about though, i cant imagine how pissed you would be if your (zukiracer) car got hit; along with some of the other highly modified GAs around here. i mean theres some serious time spent on your cars, along with money that could never be gotton back

She was ok, nothing special.

Just got a call from an adjuster, they are considering the car a total wreck and are going to start considering the fair market value of it to cash me out. I asked about finding out where the car was going (junk yard, etc) but all i could get from him was that it was being stored in one of their lots untill it was released. He couldnt tell me where it would go.

Ill salvage what i can if i can get the info on where its going.

I had similar, yet different damage on my GA (trunklid/spoiler was smashed), and mine got totaled.

wow, a lot less and totalled? crazy

adjustor just said they are issueing 12190.47 for the car + sales tax and other stuff for a total of 13412.14. This is good as i can get something decent. was expecting more like 9500 per edmunds or kbb sites.

If they tell me where the car is going, ill get what i can. ill prolly just charge a hair over what they charge me to pull it for my time and then whatever to ship. I'll update if im able to get anything so make a list of suggested items to grab if i can.

have listed so far:

Sorry to hear that ;[
That does suck.
Mine took some frame damage a while back due to a snowy incident.
My car would've been totaled if I reported it to insurance since I had it checked out by a shop and they estimated 3.2k damage on a '99.
Since the car is only worth about 4k tops... eh.

It was all cosmetic stuff however, and nearly all of it has been fixed thanks to local GAs in a JY =)

Oh, and the fog lights may go for some money here, not sure.
Usually people want good ones w/ the brackets in tact... Since they're so easy to take off you might want to get them if you can.

You could probably pick up an 05 with real low miles in that sweet gray color and have money left over

holy sh1t, you are making out like a bandit! Be VERY happy, because in reality, on the private market the car isn't worth more than $9k!!

Seriously, go buy a used '04 or '05 GTO now for $15-18k. You'll thank me for teh advice, and the idiot for causing the accident and totaling your GAGT.

No idea yet, said the police report wont be ready for another couple of days.

Also found out the car is going, or already on its way to the Sacramento area. They wouldnt give me details beyound that though. Not sure why they are transporting it a couple hours away, but whatever... Ill see if i can get more details on where exactly they are putting it if anyone in the area wants to try and strip it, doubt i want to travel that far.

As for the value, i was expecting like 9k, when he said 12+ sales tax i previously paid for 13.5k, i was glad to accept. I not sure what im going to buy yet, but GTO is out, Im in the middle of buying a house and was advised against buying anything with credit until after i close or else i could put my loan at risk. dunno about waiting 2 weeks before getting a replacement car...

so quick update, went to a physical therapist (sp?) yesterday evening. Explained the pains and stuff, etc. she had me lay down and was feeling around my neck. She then sent me for x-rays (didnt say why, but i assume to make sure im good before giving me exercises to do). Got the xrays (7 or 8 of them, all neck). They said to take it easy for a few days, I should get the x-ray results today or tomorrow and then a followup appointment (i assume to go over some exercises)

Also went to a used car auction lot with my wife (like 300+ cars there) to get an idea of what we want to try and get to replace my grand am. also helpful that we know our price range is roughly 13.5k out the door. We decided on a 4 door (since we have a baby coming late December\early Jan) and an automatic (Ill miss my old car, but my wifes Civic is still a stick if i crave it or something).

I dislike my wifes Civic because it seems cramped the seats never agreed with my back, moreso now that its sore. I also hate getting into and out of it, guess this is normal for a larger person. We looked at a few small cars (civic sized) and decided on something bigger to be more comfortable to me, but overall none of the cars we checked out seemed to work well for me, or my wife didnt like them for various reasons. moved to looking at smaller SUV's, few i didnt like, wife elimated a bunch. We kind of skipped over kia models (wife dislikes the brand for some reason). we both ended up likeing a Durango, but the V8 wasnt practical, found a similar one with a V6, but it lacked several things. (also i think its still to big, no need for seating for 8 or such a big vehicle period).

Did some online research, it would get roughly the same mileage as my grand am with the v6 model, but i still think its to big, also since it will be a commuter car for me mainly, I want something better on gas then my last car did to help us a little since gas costs more now and probably will be more in the future.

Through searching on the Durango, i was turned onto the newer crossover SUV's and they seem to be inline with what i think we want. Found a couple Chevy Equinox's that are close that im going to check out tonight. All are certified, so and i would get a decent warranty on it (which is good) and based on what i found online, i can expect better mpg then my grand am (not a ton better, but like 2-4). I'll know more once i get in and give it a test drive, but so far its looking to be what we will get if I like the test drive.

Unless someone knows a reason to not snag it or can suggest something else to look at? Would have to be able to get it at or very close to 13.5k out the door, some type of warranty is a plus. We did like the 4Runner and pilot also, but unable to find one in the a negotiable price range (equinox's were looking at are 13.5k and 13.9k, pre tax etc., which i think we have a chance of negotiating 13.5k out the door) Because im in the middle of buying a house, financing is out of the question untill the house closes near the end of this month, i would rather not wait that long for a car, so 13.5k is roughly the cut off limit on what i can snag with cash.

GregFarz78

Equinox is a decent SUV I'm sure you can find one for 12-13k, Durango's are junk.

how about a 05 mazda - decent mpg, auto or manual, looks great (IMO)

equinox is one of the best small suvs out there in the lower price range (i.e. not BMW, Lexus, etc....

You Could also try a Torrent should be the same price range as a the Nox. I would also suggest a Mazda5. How about a Nissan Rogue? Not sure how much they are used however. You might also like the HHR.

I'm not one for small car's either but the HHR was just right, along with getting decent MPG and Enough Room for Kids and a decent Storage area.

I wouldn't say bulletproof its a 3.4L so you're still faced with replacing the LIM at some point.

heard from a lot of various people to stay clear of the Durango so we decided to drop it off of our list. As for an HHR, i dont know what it is about them, but i just dont like the look of it. I sat in one while i was at that auction lot, and although it felt roomy, I just cant past the way it looks. Not my style i guess.

Looked at both a Torrent and a Vue as they are basically one in the same with the Equinox, but still favor the Equinox based on the models available locally. Did a few searches of local dealers but didnt see a used Nissan Rogue within my price range. As for a Mazda 5, my wife is against mini-vans or anything that appears similar, so we havent even looked at any. Ill through it out there (maybe to even just look at it), but im sure she will dismiss it.

I did go test drive an 06 Equinox last night. The one were looking at is fully loaded (except for a tow package i wouldnt use anyways) so everything i had in the Grand Am is there plus more like heated seats and a 6 disc changer (salesmen didnt know if it was mp3 compatible). I enjoyed the test drive, going to try to head back this weekend to see what the wife thinks of it in person. Assuming they will go around 13.5k out the door, i think this is probably the one we will get. Wont be until next week when i get the check so we will keep looking in the mean time however.

I saw it had a 3.4 and figured i'll probably get a LIM issue at some point, but my Grand Am did well with only 1 trip to the dealer for a warped driver door molding, otherwise she was pretty much perfect for just shy of 50k, tank i was on would have put me over it

My mom just got an 05 Nox and loves it. Nice trucks for sure. I have my heart set on a Rogue!!!

And as you do have a baby comin', make sure you take into consideration how big the back seat is so you can get that baby seat in and out! Which i'm sure you have :)

Sorry about the accident, ok no I am not because you made out like a bandit!

Nah they all have the "revised" 3400.

I had an equinox for about 2 years, can't complain. A little goofy looking, tail lights sucked, but was comfortable and had lotsa space.
