View Full Version : How often to replace timing chain?

I've got 148,000 miles on my GT and the Timing Chain has never been replaced. It's not giving me any problems (that I'm aware of knock on wood), but I'm wondering if I shouldn't replace it anyway.
How hard of a job is it? I'm decently mechanically inclined. My dad and I replaced the LIM without problem although it did take awhile.

as a rule, the 3400s dont really need timing chain work ever

Unless it breaks, or you put in a bigger cam and stiffer valve springs, don't worry about it. :)

so ok, what makes ours last "forever" and a lotta the 4 bangers out there, you hear them having to replace them every 70k or 100k?

for one thing, most 4-bangers use a belt, not a chain.
