View Full Version : Engine Noise over 1500 RPM's

Ok here is the deal... I'm getting a rattling noise on the engine bay (at least that where I think is coming from) while I'm driving and I go over 1500 rpm's. If I place the car on neutral or in park and hit the gas over 1500 rpm's the car sound just fine, no noise at all. Last night I event lifted the car with the jack stands and place it on drive and hit the gas to over 1500 rpm's but I couldn't hear the noise.
I did got and engine code the first time and the code was the EGR valve which I replaced already. I also replaced the spark plugs. I'm flushing the oil tonight.
What else could it be?

rattle.. almost sounds like a tensioner pulley or assembly. or any pulley that has bearings in it really

Mine does the same thing if i think this is what you are talking about. Mine almost sounds like a loose heat shield or something. Very faint upon acceleration. Only when it is in motion not in neutral.

Any luck with that misfire in cyl 5 yet Carlos?
btw guys, I've looked at his car a couple times trying to help him figure out what it is. It definitely doesn't sound like pulley noise. You'd hear that all the time. It almost sounds more like something in the transmission or some type of air pressure "popping" noise like an exhaust leak or something. Really hard to tell where it's coming from. The only time you hear it though is when the car is in gear and moving, and the engine is under load. Like 15-20% throttle and up... if that helps. Any other ideas?

check torque converter bolts, that was our problem in our friends silverado, they started to come loose from his exhaust. vibrations... his did same thing.

Well.. I just went outside with a co-worker to check the engine and looks like I have a manifold leak on the rear manifold. I was able to see some smoke. Replacing the rear manifold gasket is a pain in the @$$.
Thanks Aaron for all your help... ready to help me with the tunning?
