Going out to my buddys shop tommorow to do an oil change and get the codes pulled with a Snap-On code reader. Im know i know this has been answered five bilion times but what oil should you get and what filter? How do you go about re-setting the Change Oil light? Can someone give me a link to all the trouble codes so i can have them handy for when i get the code pulled?

Thanks alot and the main reason i am asking these questions is i want to know exactly what and how to do it PROPERLY!

Thanks!

resetting the light is easy.

1. pull off fuse panel on the drivers side.
2. hit red oil change button. the light should blink on your speedo.
3. then HOLD the button until you hear some beeps and then it goes away.

as for the codes, im not sure if there is a list but if you search the code on here something should pop up.

when resetting the light: make sure key is in the on position. when you hold the reset button the change oil light will start flashing. after it does hold reset button again until you hear a chime. let go, put fuse cover back on. tada.

as far as codes. google "grand am trouble codes."

What oil should you get ?
LMAO lol

What ever you want...
Recommended by GM is 5W-30, dino oil with current spec API SM / ILSAC GF-4.

I use (German) Castrol Syntec 0W-30, a THICK synthetic motor oil year round,

Others I suggest/recommend:
Pennzoil Platinum 5W-30.
Mobil 1 5W-30

Pennzoil ('Yellow Bottle') 5W-30
Castrol GTX 5W-30

Oil filters:
I use a NAPA Gold 1036 oil filter (aka: WIX, Carquest Premuim Blue).
I like to use over-sized oil filters, similar in size to AC Delco PF-52.
Our stock size, & for your GT is an AC Delco PF-47.
If not Wix, than an AC Delco oil filter.
(PS: Wix manufactures the Cdn AC Delco oil filters. ie: AC Delco PF-47c oil filters.)
STAY AWAY from Fram or any 'cheap' oil filters from Canadian Tire.

Another way to reset your oil change monitor interval system is:
Turn key to ON; & not running.
Pump gasoline pedal to floor 3x within 5-seconds.
Wait for beeps.
Turn off key.

Use this to get definations of OBD II codes: http://www.canobd2.com
& then search this forum for possible solutions.
