Anyone have this? what do you think? DO you like it? I wanna get a remote starter, but I dun't wanna pay over 300 for it, I'm broke, not cheap. Anyway, I was looking at other ones like bulldog, but they look like crap, and I know most ppl on here have the viper, so, tell me what to get. I went to circuit city, and they said the system and install was gunna come out to like 500- 600 bucks. I can't afford that, I'd rather just get a gauge pod and some gauges for the money I'd be spending. Anyone get it installed somewhere else or installed it themselves?

Hey~

Whats going on man? I have the Viper 550 remote starter and I love it to death. It is the most awesome thing to hear people whispering when they walk behind them and you started your car when they were next to it and no one was in it.

I will tell you that you are lookin at the best Viper alarm they make so thats why you are paying that much, but if i was you lookin for a cheaper one they have alot of alarms that are made by the same company DCI. Like CODE Alarms have had really good results.

So just search and find.

DEI, the company that makes the viper also makes other great units, for less. I believe the hornet 553t is an alarm remote start very similar to the 550esp but without the warrenty. The big cost for our cars is the pl2 (key security) Good luck, if you are near Lafayette, IN i can get you a hook-up on some product and labor. We now carry mainly code-alarm.

thanx guys,

i appreciate the honesty. No such luck on me being anywhere close to you, I'm all the way over here in NJ. looks like I'm gunna have to start saving up, and shop around for the best price on the install, maybe a lil car toys shop might do it cheaper. I just wanted the 550 cause I heard really good things about it, and the winter is coming, and I hate to run to class without letting my car warm up. Anyone else have any words of wisdom? Or any place anyone got theirs installed?

Thanx.

If you just want remote start and no alarm:

Code Alarm F50 - Remote start and keyless

Code Alarm F60 - Remote start, keyless and alarm

F50 might run you around $200-$250

F60 is more because of the alarm inputs.

Find a Code Alarm dealer in your area...if you have a problem finding one PM me your zip code and I'll try to find you one.

I got a Viper 550 alarm system on my grand am Gt. I only paid
$ 370 for the whole set up including remote start and the alarm installed on my car with lifetime warranty(then again I am over in California). I love the system but sometimes the GM alarm cuts in on my Viper and shuts my car off for up to ten minutes and I can't do anything about it. If anyone else has the same problem let me know but other than that I have got nothing but compliments on my car and the alarm/remote start system.

viper (or should i say DEI) makes excellent security systems but if you were to ask me about remote start, the question may come up if you really need it or just wanna have a cool toy.
my suggestion would be to have the main security system installed first, and make it bullet proof. thats the job of the system. then plan on adding on the remote start to the system
in the near future. DEI does make a remote start module that
can be added to any upper model viper alarm let alone most any
other top quality security system out there.
since you live on the east coast, ever heard of a company called
tweeter ( or bryn mayr ). they carry and install viper and clifford
security systems. may i also suggest the alpine sec150r.
if your curious, check it out. alpines system is made very well and
now has a lifetime warranty.

as for code alarm, I did hear they were recently bought out by
audiovox and so I dont know what that means to their line of
security systems now. ( i used to work for code alarm long ago)

good luck

btw....I do work for tweeter in san diego....hehehe
