I tried doing a search on this but could not find anything. My daughter has a 2001Pontiac Grand Am which needs a new alternator. Iím not a great mechanic but can probably figure it out. I donít have a repair manual so I am hoping that someone can tell me if thereís a tension spring pulley, if so where is it located? Or better yet does anyone have step by step instructions? This site has helped me before with step by step instructions when I replaced the motor on one of her front windows. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Replacement was much easier than I thought. You do not have to jack up the car to get to be able to remove the belt. The tension spring is just below the alternator use a 13mm socket and push towards the passenger seat and remove the belt. The alternator has 3 15mm bolts, one on the bottom right two on the top of the alternator only the one on the left top needs to be removed the one on the right just needs to be loosened.
