I am using a open cone filter in my factory ram air box, have a modified cover to keep warm motor air out. I was looking at the filter to see if it needed to be cleaned and there was a bunch of snow and ice in the air box. Is there any secret on how to keep it out or am I sol? I searched but came up empty, so feel free to link me to a thread with the topic if I missed it. Thanks.

well the snow shouldn't hurt anything and if it was water, i doubt it would hurt cause that box shaped pattern in the bottom of the airbox is made to collect the water, don't worry about it.

Well I put a drop in back in my engine bay with the factory air box, I am not sure if snow is getting in there or not. I have an SD Ram Air Hood and that adds to the stuff headed into the engine bay, so I yanked the cone for the winter. Might not be a bad idea, your cone is sucking all that salt dust and the life of your cone is not going to be all that great. I know your going to collect some snow and ice from the space in between the front of the hood and the front fascia as well.

I am not worried about the filter, it was $20 at auto zone and I am getting a K&N this spring, hopefully FWI. I was just worried that the warmth of the engine would melt the snow and I would be sucking the water in. I guess it should stay frozen as long as I funnel in the cold air through the box. I guess I will use the extended warrenty if I have to.

i sure hope you don't have a hole in the top of your airbox with a drop in filter!!!
