Hopfully it doesn't come to BC. I know the government in BC is also looking at ways to eliminate street racing because of some horrific accidents that have happened in this Province.

thats ludacrous, caprecious, and unfathomable. giving such power to cops will only set a precidence for more and more freedom in the way they police people... first its,"oh, he had a no2 bottle in his trunk, it wasnt hooked up but it was there, so i booked him." then we'll hear,"the sound his engine made at idol gave me the impression he was a racer..." then soon enough it'll be,"he looks like vin desiel, he prolly races."
give cops THAT kind of power, and society will crumble like crackers into soup.
(i dont like cops, im sorry if i offend anyone, but i REALLY dont like cops... people get murdered, raped, etc, and they're dishing out $105 tickets for not wearing your seatbelt, or for going 20 over the limit)
id like to see cops be a little more lenient in the traffic offences...i mean, giving a man a ticket for his tint? how many times have we read about that on the boards? go catch a killer.... if someone is doing something CRAZY on the roads, then stop him, but not someone who's a little late for class or something doing barely over the limit on the highway...

...and how many cops got shot and killed because they couldn't see the drug dealer pointing a shotgun at them inside the car?
There are good cops, there are bad cops (a lot more of the former but the latter get noticed more). There are good people, there are bad people (again).
If they have better tools to get racers and put them away I say all the better, it makes the roads safer for me and my family.
A lot more people get killed on the roads then murdered and a lot more murderers are in jail than dangerous drivers...

How many cops got shot and killed on a bust at a drug dealer's house? Should we make all houses out of glass so that they can't get shot? Or should the cops tell people to roll down all their windows before they come near the car? Hmmm...
If they have better tools to get racers and put them away I say all the better, it makes the roads safer for me and my family.
And they should put cameras into everyone's houses to catch all of the drug dealers, too!
A lot more people get killed by drunk drivers than racers. We should make it illegal to drink in this province, too!
Nitrous should be illegal. It is meant for racing. Superchargers and Turbos should not be illegal, they are used for other purposes. WINDOW TINT?!? I have a ***RIGHT*** to privacy, regardless of a police officer being killed by someone else who abused that right. If I get pulled over, I roll down ALL of my windows, to let them know that I don't have anything to hide.

A lot more people get killed by accidents or natural causes than by racing. Maybe we should pad every house in the province and make it illegal to have sharp knives, and illegal to put electrical outlets in a bathroom, etc...
There is already laws regarding aggressive driving. The police do not enforce these laws. This is why there is a lot of aggressive driving going on here. The police don't have the money (manpower) to enforce all of these laws, so they aren't able to.
There is also laws against racing.
But just because I race my car at the track, does not mean that I should not be allowed to drive it on city streets. It is still as safe as the day it came from the factory. Of course, this is just an example. I don't race. Neither on the road or on the track.

Actually you are on public property, so you must abide by the laws. Window tint has absolutely nothing to do with privacy. Try taking that to court on how you right of privacy was denied because an officer gave you a ticket for tint. They will just laugh at you.

I think most of these sites that are outraged about that bill fail to notice or deliberately omit to mention that this bill is aimed at eradicating street racing, it's not meant for everyday application. It just makes things easier for the cops when they catch a group of people racing to ticket everybody present, not just the two they caught racing. If there's no audience, racing get's a lot less interesting.
Most of the time they don't even ticket for tinted windows, illegal lights (think about the blue LEDs on the hood) and such, why would they now start trying to enforce everything they can? It's just a way to make their jobs easier and if you feel threatened by that bill maybe you should actually try reading it (NOT the biased versions other people post) and get to understand it better.
Remember that the Internet isn't a media of information, it's mostly a media of DISinformation...

This bill has a couple of targets actually.
They want to eliminate street racing. By making modifications to cars illegal, they are taking one VERY SMALL step in the direction needed.
They want to protect police officers. It will be illegal to have tint on the car in the front windows. It will also be illegal (with threat of a $2500 fine) to pass a police car that has pulled someone over in the lane immediately next to the car. If they are on the right shoulder, the law will REQUIRE you to move over or be fined $2500. This has nothing to do with street racing. It has to do with police officers being killed by idiots slamming into the back of their stopped cruisers.
As for the comment regarding my being on public property, which makes the tint illegal. Regardless of what property you are on, you have a right to privacy. The Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees it. It protects us from government. That is why it is there. Maybe that is not the case in the US. If the government made it illegal to protest, we could still do this, as the Charter protects us. Even if we are on public property.
And, as I said, whenever I have been pulled over, as a courtesy, I roll down my windows. Why not just make it a law so that you have to roll down your windows if you have tint?
Unless I am doing something illegal, the police have no right to know or see what I am doing. It is that simple.

Actually, the Officer's security is also a charter right and is considered more important as far as the Sureme Court of Canada is concerned. I can't cite the case but something similar was brought up to the SCC in the '80s and the government won by unanimous decision of the SCC.
If your right to privacy was so important you could also refuse to identify yourself when you get pulled over. I don't recommend trying that.
Charter rights aren't inviolable, they can be (and are) restrained as long as the restraint isn't considered abusive and that the purpose is to protect a greater charter right. The SCC is the only judge of what can be considered an abusive restraint and that constitutes all of their cases.

I put tint on my car to protect my interior and keep the heat down when it's over 35C in the summer.
If I have to take it off, oh well. I only put 35% on the front two and 20% on the back three, so people can still see me anyway.
As for privacy- if you are out of your house people are going to see you anyway- put sunglasses on if you're so worried about your privacy...or do you do weird stuff in your car you don't want people to see?!? j/k
