Yeah I know only 3rd post ...lolz.

I go to MEPS tomorrow for USAF enlisted. Im joining as an E2 with my college credit, yay.Hopefully I get an intel or E-8 combat control specialist job, woot! Its weird, im kinda pumped for this actually.I guess its cause I get to do something better than pimp cell phones for corporate america, or dodging the bursars to go to college.

Wish me luck!

-Update

Went to the processing center yesterday and got a 96 out of 99 on the ASVAB, totally better than what I thought I was gonna get lol.
My buddy who rolled with me got psyched out cause of how intimidating the place was and didnt do well, so that was an interesting car ride .

Im probably gonna do either aircraft avionics or combat systems operator on the E-8 Sentrys.I was trying for intel but my credit is below awful, so no security clearance for me :( .

I got the same score when I took it for the Marines. So, how was your taste of the "hurry up and wait" that the military is renown for? I for one despise the meps centers. Up at 0500 sitting around most of the day with no clue what's going on, not allowed to sleep, no phones, all you can do is watch crappy tv and try not to doze off all the while wishing they'd call you in already.

I would be in the process of becoming a Marine at this point had I not been "sick" for the past few months. My recruiter fed me BS about waiting and doc notes and whatnot so my only choice was to leave the DEP.

When I get $$ and leave time , ill roll up to NY and crash the LI scene, show you east coasters how a meet is done lol.

Update-my FED hasnt been approved by the recruitment squadron commander yet, and wont be till Monday.Hopefully Ill get into MEPS by Tuesday so we can get this whole shebang started. Not lookin forward to the prostate exam, or pissing in front of a Marine. ;crap

Same here. I loved jet and wanted to work w/ them. I wanted to be a backseater in Phantoms. Air Force said my ASVAB wasn't high enough, so I went across the hall and joined the Nat'l Guard while in high school. That was over 19 years ago... lol

Good sh1t man. Congrats. Yeah, your credit can mess you up big time now a days. I've known some folks that made it all the way through BCT and AIT for communications (they give interim security clearances if your stuff is still pending)and have to change MOS's afterwards that don't require a clearance (truck driver, fueler, etc) because their sh1t was so messed up. Some folks were lucky to get straight by putting it through a credit counseling service.

You friend psyched out? I had to retake the ASVAB when I went active duty after 6 years in the guard. I didn't stufy and I make a much higher score than I did in HS. Figure that one out... lol

I took the ASVAB when Scotty went in... I can't really remember my score, I think it was like 90 or something. Too bad I couldn't join. :(

Yeah, he got like a 50 something on the practice test and did 33 on the actual ASVAB. Its cause he got intimidated by the atmosphere in MEPS,its pretty sterile in there, and I guess it got to him.

Im still waiting for a callback from the tech Sgt. regarding my paperwork, delays FTL.

Prostate exam? That's a new one. Sure you don't have that confused with the part where they tell you "bend over and spread your cheeks"?

Update-

My ship date to BMT is December 7th, 2009.

Im booked into Open General, which I dont mind because any job in the USAF> Best Buy Mobile.

Im looking forward to serving my country, and having enough scratch to actually mod my car , instead of crying every payday.

Thanks for the advice and info guys, hopefully there will be some intel or computer specialty AFSC's open in BMT!

Wow...you REALLY should've looked for some advice from other Air Force member before signing an Open General contract. While you say that any job in the USAF is better than Best Buy, you'll re-think that very shortly. With an ASVAB of 96 overall, you pretty much could've got any job you wanted. Now you will more than likely end up in a really crappy job honestly. Hopefully you get lucky though and get something decent. Most of the people I know that went open / general are Security Forces or work in Services.
Should've stuck to your guns with the E-8 job. You get to fly on a plane and look at a computer screen gathering intel.....sweet gig lol
Have fun at basic though! It's an awesome time.......lol

Fortunately, I dont mind carrying guns and standing around for 12 hours at a time.

In any case, I could have insisted on my job....and waited ...and waited....and waited...then got the job, then get assigned to a detail, then find out the AFSC got re-classified and im in services anyway.IIRC 60% of jobs are held for selection at BMT, so I'm sure Ill find something that I'll be cool doing for 6 years.

How is the Air Force boot camp? Is it hard or is it pretty easy.

It is what you make of it, they try to intimidate you, but its fairly easy. Listen do what your told and MOVE QUICKLY and you will be fine.
