ok if you had $3000 to spend on your engine what would you do? no saving up and buying a supercharger or turbo, or saving for anything else your limit is $3000. what exactly would you do to it to get the most power?

Id buy an air compressor, a die grinder, lots of different carbide bits and sand paper rolls, and a few books on head work. Then I would invest in a nice tool box and tool set, and get some pneumatic tools.

Its what I did:) I also bought a flowbench. I hope to sell heads later to help offset the expense but overall its a much better investment in my eyes than paying a machine shop, or worse yet, SA to do a set. I have a 3.4 DOHC, those heads arent cheap to have someone else do. I can do maintenance work now too. Saving money on repairs later means more performance money as well.

$ 3,000 dang, I'll bet my father would drive you around in his LPE 2001 Corvette 427tt for summer for that price. That otta get you thinkin about what to save up for. 9.325 @ 153.3 mph
J/K

I would go super right now. There arrent any companys that make turbos for under 3k for our cars yet. It would be the fastest way to give the car more hp.Engine rebuild might take a bit longer.....unless you have a long lunch hour...:boogie:

You have to remember one thing with engine work:

The mods will never end.

What do I mean? Well, if you do one thing, another will have to come after it to take full advantage of the modification or upgrade. If you get heads, you're going to need a good intake/exhaust setup to take advantage of all that extra flow.

My opinion with $3000:
$700 Borla
$250 APOC CAI
$700 Headers
+installation fees

If you want to keep your car practical, as well as aggressive, thats what I would do.

I'm gonna have to say tools. Why? Cause you can use the tools for the rest of your life. How many people plan on keeping their cars for more than 10 years. Or for that matter, more than 5 years! So you spend all the money now, only to lose it all in a few years when you sell it. No one is going to give you what you put into the car, so its just a waste. And tools will save you in the long run as well. No more costly repairs by the mechanic when you can just do it yourself.

You won't spend $3000 on tools. Well, you could easily. I probably have over $5000 in tools, but I've been buying them for many years now. But I also have just about everything I need to do just about anything I want to do to my car.

Sure, an SC would be nice. But what happens down the road when something breaks. You take it to a shop and they charge you an arm and a leg for something you could have just done as easily as yourself. So spend about half of it on a decent set of tools (you can get a very nice and full set of tools from Craftsman for $1500). Then do some stuff with the remainder. Hey, you can even do the work yourself with your new tools and save on the labor costs!

I'd put some money into getting stainless steel 2.5" piping from the catback to the exhaust (if your flowmaster was just a muffler, thats it)

TOG Headers are nice, or you can get the SS Headers. I honestly don't know much between the two, but I've heard good results with the TOG headers.

well thats what everyone else tells me, but with a couple other mods and a 75 shot of nos i should be in the high 13's. that will be fast enough for me, anything faster than that and it will be bad on gas... oh well, i am gonna do it....
