I have a 2000 ga gt coupe, with a cold air intake, ase chip, slp cat back exhaust, and a 61 mm tb. If i remove the cat how loud will my car be. WIll it be a nice sound, or not. I like the way it sounds now, but the louder the better, if its a good sound. Also i am planning on heading to the track in a couple of weeks for the first time. Any pointers yall have to give me, also what kind of times could i expect to get with my mods??? THanks

It will have a much louder raspy snarl... (not ricey). It will be vicious though, and you may draw attention from the blue light specials around your town. I would go for the high flow cat, from APOC (banner below). He gives the best price on that stuff. Although, I have the pfyc.com Random Tech pipe which also works very well.
Expect more in the MPH side of the timeslip. There will be a only the slightest gains in HP though... the main gains are from removing the restrictive stock downpipe!!! It is a pipe within a pipe, so the outer dimensions are meaningless... It is very constrictive. The OE cat is huge, but it flows well enough.

It will be loud as hell (I have done it). Ask anyone who's heard my car when I had the cat off... even idling the cops will look at you funny. It did sound pretty sick, but the volume just got annoying after a while...
If you get your hands on either of the Grand Am Picnic videos, you can hear my car in those.

I have the cat removed aswell and I always get complimented on how it sounds. It's always something like "is there a V-8 in there" or "did you put a small block in there". Idle it's the best sounding till about 1700rpms then it gets a litte raspy and then you can tell it's v-6 once you are over 2000rpm's but the cold air intake makes up for the sound once you over 2500rpms.

I was told by a local shop you could replace your stock cat with a universial cat from your local parts store, then just replace mount the OT sensors on the pipe..They said it would allow more air and sound thru the pipe...Anyone try this??

Yes - Aleroboy, and he has them for sale on his site. He has the pipe priced very well. Send him a PM. He doesn't use the stock downpipe, as mentioned that is the major problem with limiting flow, not really the CAT.

They said if I drive at night a lot that I would be harrassed but try to keep of the throttle if you do see cops, they appreciate it.
