Pretty much just "falls" into place. Yank out the old and in with the new. BTW, if you are serious you just lost most of the board. Please search next time.

I'm w/ Aaron on this.

Looking at the pics that I googled, you'll basically have to move ALOT of stuff, even if it would work.

There's been some folks that have swapped a 3800, but that was major work too and the gains weren't worth the amount of work. Just swap to 3500 and port everythng out..

Ok, it seems you didn't get the drift....

It can't be done!

That engine was never designed to fit this car. It is too big, I don't think it will even bolt up to our trans, and even if it did the trans in the grand am would never hold up to that much torque. Even built up it might not last. Plus our computer will NOT run that engine.

Is that a straight enough answer?

IF someone had the knowhow, money, and skill to do that, i would start with the 5.3 out of the SS impala and somehow adapt that to fit, its FWD and 305 horse V8. It would be neat to me. and VERY quick.

thanks, but dont say things cant be done with alot of money and time and effort i could possibly be done. now are side exhausts possible as well or pointless with a grand am gt

Let me put it another way- you'll be spending 2x - 10x what your car is worth, and you'll have to custom fabricate EVERYTHING along with finding some way to run the computer system.

You can build the 3400 to 300hp for 1/5 of the price of getting a 5300 to work. If you're really interested in building an all out GA, use the 3400, 2.2 ecotec, or the 2.4 LD9. There are plenty of parts to put into those engines to make them beasts, and it will actually run with some tuning.

thanks i will try that when i have another vehicle to drive while im working on the car. would side exhausts look good with a grand am gt or would it be pointless effort to do.

i think you posted the wrong 5.3 liter, as he is prbly thinking about the 5.3 in the grand prix gxps and impala ss.

this one is at least meant for a fwd setup, not rwd or 4wd

It'd probably look stupid. If you want to do something few have done, run it thru the reverse lights in the bumper

where i am at currently i havent seen any with side exhausts just a bunch where people didnt take care of them engine wise and only cared about sound. but i will take advice and do pros and cons of my idea and that idea and see which one best fits my driving and personality styles.
