View Full Version : Belt change gone wrong?
03-18-2010, 06:21 PM
Long story short, I should not have had this guy do the work, and just done it my self... He did a good job on the brake lines.. But
For the last week, the car has been sitting on the lift waiting on a piece.
And the guy left the belt side motor mount undone.
I know this should not be done - Does anyone have knowledge as to what could have been damaged under this type of strain?
Thanks in advance - :bleep:

agree, should be fine, but i just wonder how he go the bolts to line up when putting it back on without a support on oil pan???

Yeah, it shouldn't hurt anything. The other three mounts will hold it, and the hoses and everything else attached to the engine are made to flex and move around.

ya if anything the other motor mounts took the extra stress and could have taken some damage, esp. under heavy use of the throttle.

Alright cool, I just remember reading in the manual to support the engine while it could cause problems. But I don't remember what they could have been.
I can support the engine, it just was not supported while it was up on the lift.

Yep yep - well the car should be on the rd tonight for the summer - I should be able to tell if anything happened tonight.

we had that happen after a service on an old hundai accent "AKA the egg" and the guy forgot to bolt down the engine mount and after the throttle got stuck i popped the hood and reved the engine and the damn thing tried to jump out at me OMFG

Ya that was b/c it was ran unbolted and prob the throttle cable got kinked due to the angle. The car ran fine, and with the new UD/alt pulleys its running great.
