i have a 2000 grand am gt1 with a 3400. i was wondering if a gtp 3800sc motor was a direct fit to the wiring harness or would i have to replace the harness as well?

No it will not fit nothing will bolt up and everything has to be custom and besides all that it isn't worth the downgrade to begin with.

first off... motors shot and second it will bolt to the trans. this i know for sure because the gtps also have the 4t60e transmissions which is what i have.

You do not have a 4t60e trans, the GT comes with a 4t45e

i thought the 2000 had the 4t60e also.... monte carlos have them dont they? with 3400s bolted to them... so if a 3400 will bolt to a 4t60 in theory wont the 3800 bolt to the 4t45e?

Yea it'd bolt to our trans, but the hardest part of the swap isn't the physical labor, its electrical. Our engine harness will not run the 3800, you would need a complete rewire and piggy back of computers to get the car to run right and retain passlock and gauges.

thats all i was asking and wirings not a problem i was just hoping to get off on using the factory harness is all. i have an entire gtp parts car that was totaled in the rear end so i can take the entire dash harness and computer harness out and put it in my grand am.

Any L36/L67 swap is a complete waste.

You're better off finding another LA1/4T45E trans, rebuilding those and dropping them in the GA.

Speaking of which, WTF is up with the GA? The sides are de-ribbed and it has Buick Park Avenue wheels.

yeah i know and eventually the ribs will be shaved entirely and on those park avenue rims are pirelli tires so im not gonna complain.... rims are gonna be last thing i do to this car once its finished. its a long term project.
edit... oh and you missed... it has no skirts either... im putting a RK sport kit on it so im not worried about missing panels.

In the 6+ years I've been around Grand Ams, I can count on my thumbs how many people I've seen get a 3800 to work in a 99+ Grand Am..... and I don't think they ever got it running 100%.

1- 3400s are cheap and common
2- You could buy at least three 3400s and get them installed and running for cheaper and quicker than one 3800
3- Bolting up an already weak GA trans to a SC'd 3800 will burn the trans up in very short order
4- Even after allll the custom work to get a 3800 in, you'd only be marginally faster than a stock GA
5- Even if your goal was all out performance, the 3400 is perfectly capable of making good power

Honestly, theres no real reason to use anything than a 3400(or 3500), 2.4/2.3 Quad 4, or ecotec engine in a Grand Am. Its just not worth the massive headache.
