well, i am picking up my new engine tomorrow afternoon and taking it strait to the shop that is doing all my engine work... i called them a little bit ago and asked them for an estimate on porting and polishing my heads, and intake manifolds, and he quoted me $825! is that cheap or what? that includes gaskets and everything, completely done. and then another $450 to install the engine, but i am gonna get a torque converter before i put the engine back in, would you guys suggest this? anyways, i am gonna have them do the P&P'ing and install the converter, new pulley, and he is looking into headers for me right now... then the engine goes in the car, along with my SLP exhaust and high flow cat... anything else i am forget to do while i am workin on it? oh yeah, is there a bigger TB available right now that i could have by next week if i wanted? i'll keep u guyz updated!

So I'm taking it you bought a used GA engine from a salvage yard. What did it cost for the engine?

yeah i bought it from a yard, $750 plus $100 core, so $850... only has 13,000 miles on it, so it should be perfect for what i am doing, almost a new engine....

Not very bad at all. But you should consider work to the tranny with that much power. You will need it. DHP may help us out down the road. There are other band-aids you may use aside from that. Honestly, I would have liked to have done the heads myself and should have.... but didn't....
Lesson, do them and enjoy them, realizing the risks!;)

well one thing that will help me out a tad is that the tranny is brand new, the tranny went about 2 weeks before the engine did, so thats only got about 100 miles on it, and my dad's friend owns a tranny shop so i can probably get a cooler for kinda cheap...

Honestly, you will need more than a cooler! You will need a chip for it, or at least the Interceptor. OTW the 45 will wear out prematurely. Not as bad as the SC, but the heads release so much power that you should work on the tranny as well. Look for that chip. Someday (spring?).

Good to hear! You will enjoy the 14's when all is said and done. Don't spend too much money on the manifolds. There is little to gain, just port match. And get the APOC TB, and port the upper to accomodate it. That will be good for some HP.
USE BETTER THAN STOCK GASKETS on the manifolds as well when you go thru the motor. Prevent that coolant leak! Also, you may want to do an engine oil cooler as well with the tranny cooler.
Maybe headers with all of this, that would also be excellent and now is THE BEST BY FAR TIME for you to get them installed. Waiting until the motor is installed will almost double the price of installing the headers.;)
Can't wait to hear for the results.

do you think i should even have the manifolds P&P'ed then, and just do the heads? and i am looking into headers, i was thinking about getting the TOG headers, the guy at the engine shop told me he can have the headers sent out and have them ceramic coated for like $150, or something like that, but TOG headers are very expensive, should i go for some cheaper ones and just have those coated? right after i pay for the heads and manifolds i think i am gonna order the torque converter, will that help me in the 1/4 mile alot?

Well, considering the TOGs are the only headers available right now, that kind of limits what you can get. I will agree with not having the manifold and plenum ported. There just really isn't a need. The only area that would need to be ported would be at the throttle body, and that is only if you are going to a 62mm TB. Oh, and the TOGs are already coated, so they wouldn't need to be sent out again.
Spend the money on a good P&P of the heads and you should be impressed with the gains you will get.

Anybody know if the same applies for the 3100 (the upper/lower intakes already flowing good, that is) or should I P&P everything? I'm thinking about doing all of this down the road.

wow then yer gonna think I got mine for a STEAL. bought it off of ebay for $350 (no shipping, I picked it up myself). Came out of a totalled (rear end) GA with 22,000 miles on it. ALMOST done with it. I'm excited for this summer.
Good luck with yours. You got a good price on everything ESPECIALLY the engine reinstall.

The old style 3100s (94-99) do NOT flow as well as possible, and need to be ported out. But, they cannot be ported out enough to match the flow of the new style 3100s/3400s.
