When I try to start my grand am, I get a loud ticking noise and the car won't turn over. Obviously I checked the battery.. good. So I asked around and they said its my starter solenoid.

Question 1. Is the problem the solenoid?

Question 2. Do I have to replace my starter?

Is it just one "click"?

Or more of a fast "click click click click click click click"?

They sell starters as a whole, if it's bad, don't d!ck with it, just replace the whole unit.

its multiple clicks.. does the whole unit cost very much?

Then the solenoid isn't getting enough power. The battery is the issue. Check all your grounds, make sure the battery cables aren't corroded, and see if the connections to the starter solenoid are snug and clean.

No problem. I deal with this crap all day at work. I know the difference between a battery and starter issue. lol

And I'll be honest, I hope for starters. More money for me. lol

so.. does the ground from the starter run with the solenoid back the the battery ground?

For the most part. The starter grounds itself to the motor and back to the battery. See if your solenoid wire is corroded. And have your battery tested at the parts store. Might not have enough amps.

PROBLEM SOLVED
(New battery, new starter, and ran a new ground to the starter)
Souldn't be having any more problems with my car starting for quite some time. =)
Thanks for all your help guys!

Why was the starter changed too? O.o these Delco starters aren't known to go bad. I have an 03 myself, and still on the original starter.

We accidentally shorted the solenoid, and they werent able to get the solenoid as a single part, so I just went ahead and replaced the starter too.
