Does anything change within this motor/trans between 99-05? I'm just trying to double check cause i had a feeling something did and just need to make sure.

thanks in advance

I know the EGR and UIM changed a bit for ones after 2000, and the LIM gaskets were redesigned in like 03 or 04 I think. I believe the trannys are all the same.

i have a 2003 and i'm lookin at a motor out of a 2000. but if everything besides the egr and uim are the same, then nothing should be an issue

LIM changed in late 03, along with the alternator, and some internal parts of the trans.

but nothing that affects the reconnection of any wireharnesses or bolt on to the trans right? anything relating to a direct swap?

2000 has the same UIM and egr as your car. Its the 99 that is different. And as long as you are using your fuel rail, not the one from the 2000, youll be okay. 2000 has different injectors.

A good list of changes:

Not all apply to the 3400 in GA's.

The 4T45E and 40E were revised for the 2003 year.

so basically a 3.4L 2000 motor is a direct fit onto 2003 tranny right?

Yes. Nothing with the fitment or functionality of the engines or transmissions changed between 09-05 for Grand Am's past some of the sensor and EGR connections, which can all be swapped from an old engine if need be (IIRC the coolant temp sensor and something else...)

Yes, there are all kinds of differences internally, and a few external as well. For all intents and purposes they are directly swappable, and any differences can be easily adapted too. IE '03+ has a different alternator and a different cam position sensor with a different plug and pin postions, but you can swap both of those for ones on your old engine and they will work fine on the new engine.
