View Full Version : Lights Starting to go out on RPM guage.

Hey everyone, I just had a small technical question about my Lights on the RPM gauge. Anyways from about the 2500 to 4500 the "red" light is starting to fade and go out. Is this a hard repair, is it just a bulb or something more serious. Thanks
It's just a bulb, might be a pain to get to though. pfyc.com has replacement bulbs for a decent price.

Is it one bulb that i would need to replace? or how many bulbs total is in the dash, and should i replace them all?
I'm not sure how many are in there. I'm guessing minimum three...they are pretty small bulbs.
Usually when one goes out they all go out, so I would just change them all.
That's for a 98 ga, but it should be about the same

theres a total of 8 bulbs in the cluster. four 194 twist locks, and four #74 twist locks, as folllows:
2 194 twists on speedo side
2 194 twists on tac side
1 #74 upper tac side
1 #74 left turn arrow
1 #74 right turn arrow
1 #74 high beam indicator
depending on your route just hit up a JY an grab a few spare bulbs or can upgrade to color LED and clear your cluster
use nail polish remover and remove the red film from back of gauge face, or wet sand red film off if impatient then pick an choose color LED of choice, can also leave red film on an just use red LED.
if going the LED route you will need 4 of these twist lock adapters (http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?action=DispPage&category=CAR&Page2Disp=%2Fspecs%2FT10_sockets.html) then any four 194 bulbs of your choice
then 1-4 of these #74 twist bulbs (http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?action=DispPage&category=CAR&Page2Disp=%2Fspecs%2F74_t15.htm)

There arent alot of Dead Grand Am's here, well i should say that there arent any JY local too. Im not sure if im going to change the color, so all i need is 4 Twist locks and 4 bulbs?

yes and you can also buy the twist adapters at auto zone and get normal 194 bulbs or LED. its really up to you.
changing them in fairly simple as well

Asking for anyone's opinion, Would that look tacky with different color gauges? I was either thinking of keeping it the same or changing it to white?

check this thread over on GAOC
first post really explains it well an shows the gauge in white, only difference is he used LED strips instead of changing the bulbs.
page two guy used green LEDs and posted pics of lit up
