It is possible to hook the radiator cooling fans into the auto-power-shut off circuit that our cars have? I know that the radio will shut off after 10min, and the interior lights will shut off after 20min I believe? Or would it be better just to get a timer?
The reason why I am asking is that it gets really hot here in
California, and in order to reduce the heat-soak on the engine after shut down, I pop the hood and let it cool off. It would have been nice if GM put a timer on the cooling fans to cool the engine after the car is shut down.
Thanks!
The timer for the radio shuts off when the driver door is opened on the GA.
Now for a timed fan mod........................
Lets just say it is in the works, and will be in my car soon, and then my GF's GA to follow :D
I had a early test one in my car for a while and it worked fine. This one is much better, and I am trying to make it plug and play like the other one out there, but the only thing holding me up is getting a hold of the correct connectors. (help would be great ;) )
And the last thing that is holding me up is getting printed circuit boards made. The prototype I am making now is wire wraped, and that takes a few hours to do, and it is very annoying to do.
That is all I am going to say now cuz it isn't even in a car yet, it is on my bedroom floor.
Also, this is not advertisement, this is just some general info on what I am working on.:D

The way it sounds, you are making a custom timer? Or you are making a custom setup that plugs into the car's computer? Yeah, I know about wire wrapping, it is a pain in the rear. Let me know how it comes along though, I know of some shops around here that make custom boards.

Which connectors do you need??
Which connectors do you need??
The male and female connectors for the fans. I know the GA's have two connectors each, and the GP has just one connector.
I need them so my thing can be plug and play. I need all I can get. I need to find a junk yard that has newer cars.
If someone knows where to buy them new, that would be great, but the part numbers I have for the GP connectors don't come up on gmpartsdirect.com.
This will toatlly by pass the computer, and should not set any SES lights......I still have to test this though. My last version would set the lights, but this one is different.

Go to the dealer, they can get them (I asked last time I was there).
Or, if you don't want to modify things at the fan level... You should just have your contraption power up the coil for the fan relays. That eliminates having to power the actual fans. That's what I'll be doing whenever I get around to the fan override.
My last one activated the stock relays, which forced the fans to come on, but a SES light will set, cuz the PCM will think the fan relay is bad.

Let me know what you come up with. I may ask you how much you want for your system, or the plans for them.
less than what is out there now (you know, the expensive one with no features ;))
