the black plastic piece that cradles the glass has adhesive in it. i tried getting in there with a razor blade, but the plastic clip is behind the lift guide, so there isn't much room to access the thing and pry against it. so how do i break the adhesive bond? (without breaking the glass)

A heat gun will release the urethane that holds the window bracket/clip

When I broke a plastic window clip, it was winter and someone I know had just done tiers on the car outside and it didn't take and came back off. I don't have room in my garage for a car because all of my equipment and tools.

So I took my window out and took it to the basement to do it. I just measured a few points and marked some tiny marks with black marker on the window to measure from so I can triangulate the exact position of the bolt hole in the plastic bracket. I then, having the window out could easily get to the stuff to scrape and clean it off very well.

I then mixed up the epoxy and put a new one on checking my measurements I had written down and after it setup, I re-installed it and was good to go. This was a couple years ago.

I bought a pack of the clips at the auto-parts store and found a local shop that sells to body shops and dealer service centers to buy the Epoxy from. I used 3M Structural Adhesive Tube Kit Part No. 08101 (also says 051135 below part no.) Got plenty left if anyone local needs to do this (as long as this stuff doesn't expire cause it is a couple years old, but kept in the basement so never too hot nor cold)

Pepboys said they use that Gorilla glue on them but I don't like that stuff because it expands some and hasn't worked all that well for friends on various things.

thanks for the idea. i might just take the whole window out to work on it.

i'll let everyone know how it turns out when i'm done.
