I know this dead horse has been beaten to death but I haven't found a definite/up to date answer to this question.

I have an all stock '03 GAGT with the CD/Cassette monsoon system. The HU screen has been burnt out, the buttons are worn out, and the CD player is giving me problems. So it's time to put something new in.

All I hear is how problematic it gets to replace it, and still utilize the Monsoon amp. I want to keep the rest of my system stock, and not loose any features such as the amp, and door chimes.

If someone would be kind enough to list out exactly what I need to do this?

Buy a used radio, same as yours, or get an adapter that connects to the connector and then plug it into an aftermarket radio

This already is my second radio, so I'd like to go aftermarket to get the extra features and better quality.
From my understanding a standard harness won't work with the monsoon system.

Also the "put the stock unit in the trunk" trick is to messy, I want to do it the clean way

I heard that there's a special harness that's direct plug in, and will allow you to keep the old amp, but its pretty pricey, I'll check into it tomorrow or day after cuz I want to change my radio as well. I'm going into a special car audio store, they'll know if such thing exists, and hopefully will sell it as well. When I changed it on my other GAGT I just rewired everything and lost the amp :(

I called and the guy told me that he sells it for 160$. Its direct plug into oem wiering and then into the aftermarket radio. I'm sure you can find it on ebay or a local audio shop.

Thanks for the help guys. I just assumed my car audio guys were price gouging, guess that's how much they cost.
I was hoping to do the whole thing, radio and all for $200 so it probably won't happen.
I'm not interested in spending much because I'm selling at the end of the summer.
