Hello all,I'm new to this forum and very proud to be the new owner a 1999 Grand Am GT.
Ive changed plugs ,wires, air filter.
I'm looking at changing the pcv valve.
I know this should be an easy job as i've done it many times before to other vehicals i've owned ,but this one is different unless i'm looking at the wrong piece.
This is for my 1999 Grand Am GT,3.4 ltr.
The pcv valve is located on the right front valve cover, but it has a clip covering it as though to keep in place.
This clip is riveted to the valve cover.
Bought a new one thinking it would come with some self tapping screws but nothing but the pcv valve was what i got.
So now i'm thinking that i may be looking at the wrong piece.
I've included a pic.

nope thats def the right place mine just slips in. no little rived cage. does your have California emissions on that motor. thats the only reason i can think that it would be like that.

Not sure, haven't check into that yet but i will.
So now i'm thinking that if i pop the rivets there wil be two hole into the valve cover,or are they only part ways in.

yea i think it will leave two holes. you could see if there is a you pull it junk yard around you and get a different valve cover. o remove the cover and tap them for some small plugs, be careful w.e you do wont drop metal particles or pieces into the oil. that would be bad

Huh, that's weird. I've never seen a bracket like that over a PCV valve on a grand am.

So after some reading and checking the piece out a little more I was glad to see that this clip is held in place by two splined rivets that pull out with a little work but come out easily.
The two holes are located in the casting so no effect on the valve covers.
Part changed.
Thanks all.

My 05 had them too. They were easy to pop out.

Yes 05 3400's and all 05+ 3500's have those PVC brackets on the valve cover. They were put there so they don't blow out and coat the engine compartment with oil vapor

I thought it was stupid they riveted it anyway. Mine has never attempted to come out since I removed the rivets.

Hey. Our '05 SE has the clip on it. Apparently, the folks who owned the car before us never had it (and a lot of other stuff) changed out (135k now). What did you use to remove it? Were you able to preserve the clip and reinstall it after installing the new pcv or do you have to destroy it to get it off? I'm pretty sure we need a new pcv and grommet put in pronto. Thanks for any info...

Hi,i used a small sloted screw driver and just wiggled them out one at a time. The holes that are left
Don't go through the valve cover so just left the clip off.
So far no problem with the pcv valve comming out or loose.

considering GM had 10yrs worth of 3x00's from 94-04 without the riveted clip and i have never heard of them popping out on N/A or boosted applications i don't think popping out on their own was ever a problem.

Gm probably just didn't want people meddling with the emissions stuff.

even with my modified engine running for 4yrs without the riveted clip i never had a problem. the new 05 3400 i got had the riveted clip but when i put the engine back together i used another valve cover.

FINALLY! I've searched all over the place for info on that damn clip,,, thought I was going to have to pull off the cover to get at that valve
