View Full Version : Gas cap not fitting right

This has been a problem for the past year and I want to try to get it right.

Problem: Gas cap has to be pressed in very hard after getting the notches lined up. It is tight enough to where you dont even have to have the notches lined up and you'll still be able to click it the cap over. Getting it back off is a struggle and embarrassing. After turning it counter clockwise, I have to grab the cap by its base and rock it back and forth until it comes loose. Impossible to remove with just thumb and index finger.

I thought it was a bad cap, so I bought a new one. Same problem. It's almost as if the diameter of the filler has shrank. It is visually ok - no warping or bending anywhere.

Anyone else experience this with a fix?

Nope, never heard of that problem before. That's really strange. No signs of rust on the inside or the outside of the filler pipe?

The only thing I can think of is sanding down the tabs on the cap a little until it goes in smoothly, or replacing the filler tube.

Nope, no rust whatsoever - the cap and the inside of the filler tube is pretty spotless. I don't understand it at all.

Sanding was my next move, but didn't know if there was something I was missing.
