I just bought a 2000 grand am gt for $1000. It had a brand new power steering pump also a brand new water pump. Shortly after I got it it started to overheat I pulled over right away and noticed coolant was gone....crack in the resevoir I immediately got a brand new one. After that I take it to a mechanic to check and see if theres any more problems. There was a big problem, intake manifold gasket. I'm now getting that replaced as well as new tie rods. Total investment $2000. First did I get a reasonable deal? Second is there any other common things I should get checked out? It has 130000 miles on it.

Yeah I knew there would be problems and from what I've read the intake manifold gasket is a common one on these cars is there any other common things with these cars that I need to check out?

Only thing that I can think of that bothered me at first but I'm used to it now is your passenger and driver side windows will get scratches on the outside of them from dirt/grit getting into the track that the window rubs against when going up and down.

Common thing with the LA1 is the LIM gasket, I really hope you used the metal LIM gaskets...
Oh, keep an eye on the front hub assemblies.
