So I'm conteplating on buying another set of these:

As some of you may know I had a set of them that came smoked, but VERY slightly smoked and where the only ones on ebay so I felt special :angel

I contacted Eagle Eye to discuss my issue with them because after 2-3 in a half months 3 of the driver side LEDs went out and as some of you that had these LED tails know the LEDs are on a board so if 1 goes out you have to replace the whole board and not just that 1 LED. I posted this to them about 3 months ago and still no reply, I really don't want to try to contact them again to get yet another non response.

What I'm asking is your alls advice. Should I just get another set or try to contact again. The item is way past warranty as it was from a ebay vendor and I don't think Eagle Eye can do anything about it.

The only thing that sets me back to wanting to get another set is mine where "special" you could say since they where slightly smoked and where the only ones on ebay and I could tell they where smoked when I look at a regular set of them. I don't mind my stock GT tails, they looks nice, it would just be nice to get them nice lookin LED tails back in.

Just for comparison, these don't claim they are smoked but they look "darker" then the others, probably just me being paranoid or the angle of the pic, what do you all think? I look at the reverse bulb lense and the turn signal part to tell.

"Smoked" lookin:

Non "smoked":

Also heres a pic from my car back in winter when they where put in and the other is off the ad where they are "not smoked"

Mine "smoked":

Ad "non smoked":

1st gen LED tails, never really liked them. These mess with the cruise control setup.

IMO, go with the 2nd gen LED tails, better looks, quality and no cruise control issues.

50/50 tinted 2nd gens FTW!

the quality is the biggest "what if" them things were 50/50 if you were going to have probs.

it's your green dude, but, i wouldn't spend my money on another set, it took under 3 months til mine were yacked, and i don't drive much at ALL

Never liked clear lense tails though, thats the reason I went with the red lense.

the lense is irrelevant. it's the crap work behind the lense. if ya get another pair, i hope ya get a good set, with the age of them, and the lack of stock, i think there is some refurb sales going on and we're not informed of it, but that's just my opinion

Yea someone on the other forum had theres for 2+ years without them doing any of this but then once I mentioned my problem his went out lol

The 2nd gens are just better, period. They make red lens paint, so there's an option. Real red and white 50/50 tails would look quite nice on a red GA. It gives the GA nice OEM+ look without the tackiness most aftermarket tails are for our GAs.

that split may be a hell of an idea right there!

can you do some photo'chop? dink around with that some man, that very well might look sweet

It would be interesting to see the 2nd gen LED tails with red lense paint over them since part of the tail lights housing is black, wonder how it would blend with the red

2nd gens come in chrome as well (clear basically) I'd opt for those to tint red so they appear more red.

Uh, mine are first gen LED tails (the first ones available on ebay) and they do not cause cruise control problems. I've still got all my LED's working too.

I remember reading a lot of issues with that over on the other site, I know it was brought up here a few times.

if the 3rd tail and the regulars are all led it stops it. but putting in a 5 cent resistor fixes it. that's what i did.

Aaron i was gonna drag you into this, i thought you'd said you'd never had problems, but that's how they seemed to have went, they either fine forever or they had issues right off the get-go.

Hate to bring up an old thread, but.. It's relevant.

I was thinking about doing LED tails, while retaining a semi-stock look. I would like to do the 2nd gen Philips Lumiled tails from eBay with a stock GT lense. Anyone done this before, and would the lense swap be too much of a hassle, or would the end result be worth it? I don't like the look of the LED bulbs as most of them don't have good optics in stock reflectors.

My other option for LED tails would just be the dark red 1st gen tails, although after reading his thread I'm opting to not go that route. Any input, positive and negative is warmly welcomed.

The 1st gen LED tails are all good. It's just a hit or miss with them. You'll either get a good pair or get the bad end of the string and they'll crap out on you in a couple months.

Also I would just put LED bulbs in stock tail lights if your wanting to put a stock taillight lense on a aftermarket tail light.

Would be interested to see if you actually did this though.

Cool, I just haven't had much luck with the bulbs in the past, and I like the pattern of the perfboarded LED 2nd gen ones, but I can't find any with a red lense in that style, so this is where I'm at now.

The only thing wrong with our aftermarket LED tail lights is if one bulb goes out you will pretty much have to buy another set of tails since the LEDs are on a board or deal with that bulb(s) being out. That's for all our aftermarket LED tails. The only ones that came in red lense where the 1st gen ones, which is why I got them. Never was a fan of aftermarket clear lense tail lights.

So to prevent that you would pretty much just be getting LED bulbs for tails/turn signals. From what I understand there are bulbs on eBay that claim that they have "built in" resistors so you won't get hyper flash/CC problems when installed.

Okay one more question and then I'll leave you alone: how much difference is there in the tail/brake light intensities? I don't think I've seen too many eBay LED tail light applications on other cars where you can really tell when they hit their brakes. Since you have experience with them, is it quite noticeable?

09-16-2012, 01:15 PM
After having my set, they are BRIGHT. The turn signals are hella bright too if you use white bulbs.

Great! Thanks for the quick replies, and the info was invaluable. I appreciate it!

I lit up stop signs for 4 blocks when it was actually dark out. about 1200 foot away from the car.

They will murder people in a drive thru lol
