Hey guys and girls I am new here so just thought I would say hi , But also ask a question . I have a 2001 gmgt 3.4 L with 190xxxKMs on it , i just bought it about 2 weeks ago . Now I did a full service on it but after changing the oil there is a tapping sound comming from the top of the engine . any idea what it can be, its loud on start up but calms down when warm and follows the rpms
thanks in advance

it could be just the loud valve train that 3400s have. my 3.4 alero has a tapping sound persay on cold start up, then once shes warm its pretty much gone.
but lets see what others say.

Common problem, well not a problem really, with the 3400s.
Mine knocks when the engine is cold and goes away when its warmed up but I notice when I drive the knocking is very faint at a certain RPM.

Yeah, could also be piston slap as they call it... but that usually goes away completely when warm once the pistons expand. If the noise is coming from the top, it's probably a lifter. That would also quiet down once the oil was warm and started flowing better, but you'd still hear it.

ya thats exactly what happens , its loud on start up but once you drive it for a bit it quiets down alot some times to the point were you cant even really hear it ,
