Well, I bought the SC/T hood a while ago with the impression there was a kit on the way to make it functional.. but I've read a few rumors on the board here that said there will be no such kit coming out. So what do you all think? Is there anything you've all heard? Or should I simply just order a CAI from APOC which will probably show more gains anyways. But, I feel that if I have the hood I might as well make it functional, you know?

Just need a little input here...

In my honest opinion, just an opinion, the hood on that would hardly be worth it as it being functional. It's not in the right place to suck in a whole lot of air. I think if you would do an airflow test on it, it would be in a pretty bad position to make it functional.

It needs to be either up front (like the regular scoops between the lights that don't do squat), or needs to be higher (height wise). If you look at the TAs it farther up front and directly head on with the flow of air.

I just looks at it and don't see it "that much" worth it.

I'd pick CAI as a better option.

Word was that GM was working on a setup. I actually found out alot about this last night at the GM venue I went to.

There was a project to make the kit for the hood, but it didn't really show too much of a gain, plus it didn't pass water ingestion tests so they scrapped the idea. The cost was going to be about $300 a kit, and to mass produce them was going to cost them nearly $500k. Not nearly a gain in GM's eyes.

I still have faith that the hood can produce gains..someone will come up with something. Yes, the TA hood is higher, but look at the car's shape itself? Its got a brute face lift, which directs the air right into its nostrils and hood scoops. Its just a different design, thats all. *Shrugs* I have faith!

(my revised post)
Ok try this again.
I've considered making an air box to work with the ram air hoods using a cone style K&N filter and having it seal with the hood.
the box would prolly be mad out of fiberglass unless I found a place to mold me a composite one.

My concerns though are in rain and such where water can't directly hit the filter.
I've thought about K&N pre wraps and also about a baffle that would block rain and such from directly hitting the filter.

but I would need a car here to mold it to if this was somthing people were interested in.

Very interested..

I wish I could let you use my hood, but I can't drive all that way lol

There was a rumor that PFYC was coming out with a SC/T hood CAI..but..no word on that neither.

i would also be interested if you can find a hood..

Anyone have a hood they're willing to "donate" for a temporary time period? Or who else is in that area with a SC/T?

I'm not banking on it!

Maybe one of the Gurus, Spoon, or another GM Engineer could confirm something? I think a lot of us are waiting for this... but if we are waiting for something that isn't coming out then we are wasting our time...

Tony If you read above, MikeNT told you the scoop about the GM project being scrapped. The thread has been deleted that originally discussed this.....

The only way to get a RAM AIR effect is to have a scoop that is at least 2.5" off (ws6=major height) of the hood's primary surface. The scoops are not for function, they are purely for looks. They will cool the car off however when fully opened up. But it is not worth the expense to develop a fully sealed ram-airbox. The hood is not capable of grabbing enough air from the laminar flow going over the hood to deliver ram air to the motor.

The SD is most beneficial because of its heat extractors. Think of these hoods as 90% looks, 10% performance. And that 10% consists primarly of cooling the engine bay.

Unless the air filter was right up front by the nostrils (ws6) where it could receive a more substantial amount of air, don't get the hopes up for the ram effect...
