Hey all,

Can anybody give me some advice on extended warranties? My car is almost close to 60,000KM and that's when the manufacture's warranty expires. The service guy mentioned I should buy it now, just to cover my butt. I'm going to keep the car, so I know I should look into it. The car been great, minus a few minor exceptions. Has anybody been through this process? What type of extended warranty did you get? What type of money am I looking at spending on it? I read up on the Protection Package that is offered, but that seems like the only thing I can find. Can anybody offer any advice or experiences? Thanks in advance.

I checked out 3 extended warranty companies when I bought my GT late last summer because I didn't want to go with GM's or the dealer's warranty company. They were:
www.1sourceautowarranty.com/
www.warrantygold.com/
www.warrantydirect.com/index.asp?^

I went with 1Source because it offered more protection for a longer period at a better price than any of the others, including GM's, and I have no deductible. It cost around $1300 for 10 years/100,000 miles. You can make monthly payments with no finance charges. Also, a friend of mine has it and had no problems with shops or dealers accepting it for warranty work. I don't know if these companies will work up in Canada, but it may be worth a shot. It'll probably be a lot easier to be approved for an extended warranty before your car is out of the new car warranty.

Hope this helps...

I have the 100000km or 5 year wish I would have gotten the best one. I didn't have alot problems with my car until the factory warrenty was done now I've had what would have been 3000$CDN worth of work. You may pay what seems alot at first but it may very well be worth it

I got the GM Canada extended warranty until my car is 6-years (for 3 more years more than the original manufacturer's warranty) or 100K km with a $100Cdn deductable per claim/visit to any GM dealer for $1490Cdn, when I bought my car new in May '98.

So far I've done:
last summer
-> A refurb. AC Delco alternator change

last week :crying: :
-> a water pump change (Dexcool leaking from water pump vent hole)
-> right/front axle shaft seal & sleeve change (ATF leak)
-> a Lower Intake Manifold Gasket change (exterior oil leak) :rage:

So you can say I got my money's worth in repairs.

The GM extended warranty also covers a rental car; if you car needs more than 2-hours of labour work during the day or if your car needs to be kept at the garage over-night.

I had the exact same problems except it was the upper intake. I have also had a rear wheel hub replaced 450$CDN. I had some big p/steering problems the first 2 months I had it. 3 hoses and 2 pumps all due to a valve to the pumps that were a 1/8 of a inch to small. Than I was good for 2 years except for my window regulators but I think that was partialy my fault(frozen windows). Now that warrenty is off it's almost falling apart it seems. I still love her though.

I don't know too much about warrenties, but I decided to get an extended warranty that will last another 5 years or another 100000kms. I know I'll reach the kms in about 3-4 years time anyhow. Not really too many problems before, just want to cover myself just in case.

I got the GM 100,000mile 5 year, no deductable for $940usd. All my repair history's added together form a list over 9pages long. I would highly advice you to get it. I only had about a page and a half of repair work at 36000miles. Now my tranny is going and I'm only at 56000miles. Fun stuff eh?

Get it, it's worth it. I'd pay twice as much if I had to.

You can also sell it prorated for your mileage. I could get back about $400usd back right now. I'm leaving it on for when I sell it.(my Z is supposed to show up next week, WOO HOO!) Without I'm sure nobody would buy my car.
