Camshafts or Timing Gears: Which to Get?

In general, whick gives the most HP gains:
-mild ground cams without timing gears
-timing gears without performance/mild ground cams

The reason I ask is because I have the timing gears on order & I'm considering if its really worth the trouble to get the right specs and then blank cams from GM and then get them ground. BTW I have an Ecotec-there are no pre-ground camshafts availbe on the market yet.

Hey this is pretty OT i know, but do you ever get down around the michigan area? If so I'd love to tune your PCM for you, I've wanted to do an Eco in a GA for some time now :)

What do you mean tune my PCM, are you a GM tech? What would I gain? I just don't think that I want my PCM modified at this point yet.

I mean tune the spark and fuel tables out for 91+ octane, there is a ****load of power to be had in the Ecotec on premium fuel. That and move the rev limiter up a bit and remove the top speed limiter, turn the fans on earlier to run cooler etc..
